This isn't exactly true. The scotus ruling dealt with mail in ballots. They didn't rule on drop boxes which is where most of the fraud occurs as ballots delivered to drop boxes do not need a postmark and are outside the postal system.
Alright some people are clearly misunderstanding the ruling today from SCOTUS.
Yes, its not the ruling the GOP wanted, no this is not going to fundamentally change the nation.
The state of Missouri changed it laws so that mail-in ballots can be received up to 5 days after Election Day, as long as they are postmarked by Election Day.
The question was whether a state can do that, and they can. SCOTUS holds it that a Ballot that is postmarked by or on Election Day is a valid ballot.
This ruling, had it gone the other way would not have fundamentally changed too much. It would have been nice, don't get us wrong, it's a bad ruling, but it also isn't the end of days.
The key thing we are seeing is that people are assuming that California would shift massively to the right. False. California wouldn't be too effected by this ruling.
So when you watch election results in California you see the days and days of it getting bluer as they count in mail-in ballots, most, not all, of those ballots are received by election day, California just doesn't start counting until polls close.
Unlike Florida, in Florida, mail-in ballots are counted as they arrive. This is a fundamental difference in counting.
The biggest state that probably would be effect the most would have been Alaska. Alaska has a lot of mail-in ballots (mostly from rural Dem Native voters) and with just how Alaska is, their ballots can arrive pretty late.
Not saying, and we have to stress this, that this is a good ruling, it's not, but it also really probably effects maybe like 3 states, and a total of like 4 races.
If you want this to change, good news Congress and the Senate can in fact change the law, and make it so mail-in ballots received after Election Day are illegal to count, but as of now, they are legal, depending on the state's law.
Note that SCOTUS still requires them to be postmarked before or on Election Day, because that is the law in Missouri. States have a lot of leeway on how their elections are handled and counted, and federal guidelines are a bit loose.
What all SIX GOP-appointed justices said during briefings in Watson v. Republican National Committee. The question henceforth should be, “WHO GOT TO ROBERTS AND BARRETT?”
Alito - “We don’t have Election Day anymore. We have election month, or we have election months.”
Kavanaugh - “If the apparent winner the morning after the election ends up losing due to late-arriving ballots, charges of a rigged election could explode…”
Gorsuch - “…is there anything that would limit states from allowing receipt by election officials up until the day of the next Congress?”
Barrett - “if you can still have ballots being received after Election Day, I think that violates the whole notion of Election Day.”
Thomas - “The statute requires receipt by Election Day.”
Roberts - “If Election Day is the voting and taking, then it has to be that day.”
@Sassafrass_84 70% chance they tell the planet everyones a US citizen if you pop a baby in the mud of the rio grande riverbank and CBP then picks you up
🚨 JUST IN: Supreme Court Justice Sam Alito GOES OFF on the court’s decision to uphold late-mail in ballot counting
“[This] creates a serious risk of further undermining public confidence in our elections and our system of self-government!”
HE IS RIGHT.
SCOTUS DID THE WRONG THING FOR AMERICA!
Amy Comey Barrett should’ve sided with us!
