Visiting Eritrea is a big thrill for people who like tough adventures. Forget the Amazon. The Amazon is now full of tourists, hotels, and easy tours. Eritrea is still the most isolated country in the world. It makes the Amazon look like a busy city.
Eritrea feels like one of the last unknown places on Earth. But “unknown” here means the government keeps it shut off from everyone. It has closed borders, strict rules, and old roads. People call it the “North Korea of Africa.” One man, Isaias Afwerki, has ruled since 1991. Young people must serve in the army for a very long time. There is almost no internet or phones.
Come for the “adventure.” Good luck leaving. It is the world’s most isolated country — and it works hard to stay that way.

Im Exil zu leben und gleichzeitig zuzulassen, dass ein Unterdrückungsregime, das unser Volk in Eritrea leiden lässt, die Jugend zerstört und das Land zugrunde richtet, im Ausland Plattformen erhält, bedeutet, das Leid unseres Volkes zu verharmlosen.

Die Veranstaltung, die in der Schweiz (Lausanne) unter dem Namen „Eritrea Festival“ geplant ist, ist kein unpolitisches Kulturfest. Sie dient vielmehr als politisches Instrument und wird unmittelbar von Sofia Tesfamariam organisiert.

Anstatt die Stimme des unterdrückten eritreischen Volkes zu sein, gilt sie aus Sicht der Verfasser als eine der wichtigsten Vertreterinnen der Propaganda des Regimes. Sie verteidigt und rechtfertigt dessen Handlungen und trägt dazu bei, dessen Interessen zu fördern.

Diese Veranstaltung dient daher nach dieser Darstellung nicht der Kultur, sondern nutzt Musik und Kunst als Mittel, um dem Regime politische Legitimität zu verschaffen, seine Herrschaft zu verlängern und politische Propaganda zu betreiben.

Versuche, unter Bezeichnungen wie „Seminar“ oder „Festival“ Propagandaveranstaltungen durchzuführen, sollten in der Schweiz keinen Platz haben. Deshalb sei Wachsamkeit erforderlich, um Desinformation und Irreführung entgegenzutreten.

Wir lehnen jede Aktivität entschieden ab, die das diktatorische Regime der PFDJ/HGDEF stärkt, legitimiert oder ihm finanzielle Einnahmen verschafft.

Wir müssen die Stimme der politischen Gefangenen sein, die seit Jahren in den dunklen Gefängnissen Eritreas festgehalten werden, ebenso wie die Stimme der Familien, die durch dieses Regime auseinandergerissen wurden.

Unsere Kultur und unsere nationale Identität sind nicht mit dem unterdrückerischen Regime gleichzusetzen. Deshalb rufen wir dazu auf, den von Sofia Tesfamariam organisierten Veranstaltungen gemeinsam entgegenzutreten.
