Society has an asymmetrical approach to risk aversion—on one hand, it makes it incredibly difficult for people dying from untreatable, painful diseases to access new medications. On the other hand, it allows healthy individuals in their prime to easily jump out of a plane. I’d find this pretty funny if it weren’t so tragic.

Given how LLMs work, it seems unlikely they’ll spawn AGI or ASI. We probably need a new architecture that hasn’t been invented yet. If GPT-5 doesn’t show a huge leap—like acting as an agent with programmable goals and long-term memory—this hunch will likely be proven right.

I believe the support also points to a potentially justified mistrust of the system. In contrast, people in Northwestern Europe—who may be less inclined to celebrate violent criminals—tend to face fewer insurance issues, thanks to a more citizen-focused framework rather than a profit-driven one. If the established system cannot effectively eliminate perceived evils, people may begin to embrace and even celebrate vigilantism.
