I am holding a cup of chai. Still warm. I am not tasting it. My body's on the chair. My mind is in tomorrow's meeting, yesterday's argument, a thing someone said to me in 2014 that still stings. The tea goes cold in my hand. I drink it without noticing I drank it. .

Patanjali figured it two thousand years ago. He built the whole machine around it.
The mind is like water, he says. Always moving. A worry, a craving, a plan, a memory - the surface never holds still. He had a word for the ripples. Vritti. And he defined the entire practice in one line. Citta-vritti-nirodha. Still the ripples.
The Katha Upanishad says the body is a chariot, the senses are wild horses, the mind is the reins. And we ride behind. Let the reins go slack and the horses bolt. The chariot keeps moving. We're being dragged.
The feed. The ad. The notification. The grievance we keep polishing. We're paying attention every second of every day.
The only question is who's collecting it.

Arrest the owner. Good. Now find me the man who signed the licence. And the one who was paid to stop looking.

In Mahabharta, Arjuna stands on the battle field, drops his bow, refuses to kill - out of compassion for the men in front of him. The great warrior felt frozen, cold, conquered. Krshna challenged him to pick the bow. The whole Gita is one long argument against misplaced mercy.

The Pashupati seal - proto Shiva is one glaring example of this. They feel that accepting it as a Proto - Shiva is a win. @authoramish has done a beautiful explanation on this. However, it is still not unconstrained, it's still not free as most of our energy is spent on arguing.
