Communities are the first responders in any health crisis, but often the least supported. Through the Building Pandemic-Ready Communities (BPRC) project, EANNASO, with the support of AHF, is working with partners in Rwanda and Sierra Leone to change that. During our recent virtual orientation, stakeholders came together to share real experiences, highlight gaps in community preparedness, and explore solutions that put communities at the center of pandemic response. From strengthening local systems to improving communication and inclusion, one message was clear:
Resilient communities are the foundation of resilient health systems.

Have you heard of the #healthyadolescents slogan?
Did you know that #CervicalCancerAwarenessMonth is in January?
#cervicalcancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers, and elimination is possible within our lifetime. In 2020, the World Health Organization @WHO launched the #cervicalcancereliminationinitiative, calling on all countries to reach the 90โ70โ90 targets by 2030: This means,
โ 90% of girls fully vaccinated against HPV by age 15
โ 70% of women screened with a high-performance test by ages 35 and 45
โ 90% of women with precancer treated and 90% with invasive cancer managed
Reaching these targets requires strong health systems, trained health workers, and sustained investment in prevention, screening, and treatment. This month, we recommit to accelerating HPV vaccination, expanding access to screening, and ensuring no woman is left behind. Eliminating cervical cancer is not just a goal, it is a responsibility. #empowerthestorytellers

Rwanda's parliament has resumed discussions to determine whether underage teenage girls can access sexual reproductive health (SRH) services, including family planning services. This motion was previously tabled but hit a dead end over concerns about parental consent and the increase in teenage pregnancies.
The Health Ministry argues that these SRH services are needed as 38% of children born to teen mothers suffer from stunting as a result of the constraints that come with giving birth.
