@hashback_ The issue is even for that basic they will ask AI to do the work๐๐
I would appreciate if they can use that capability to learn from what AI generates
To be honest, right now teaching programming has been the hardest thing due to AI. I have experienced this mentoring a team where they didn't know how to code.
I'm not against AI but learners don't want to understand architecture and basics. What's your take on this?
My Junior dev used Cursor to write a 400 line PR in 10 minutes.
I rejected it and told him to rewrite it manually so he actually understands the code.
Now he's complaining to HR that Iโm blocking productivity and being anti AI.
Am I teaching him good engineering, or being an old head?
I think as a software engineer also you should learn sales(pre-sales engineer) with skills such as good communication.
This can come in handy as you decide to work on your own startup, also explaining technical details to a non-technical team member(s) or clients.
Roles are collapsing.
If you're a "Software Engineer" today, you may be a "Product Engineer" soon - with many more responsibilities.
So:
- Learn design/UX/QA/PM skills.
- Focus more on the user, and less on the syntax.

As a developer, you don't need to have all this set-up if you don't have determination. Development need persistence and grinding daily regardless of the laptop you are using or set-up you have so long as you have something that can finish a task.
Instead of watching an hour of Netflix, watch this 2 hour hour Stanford lecture will teach you more about how LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude are built than most people working at top AI companies learn in their entire careers.
