What fades while we’re awake may be protected when we sleep!
In our study, wakefulness hit weaker memories hardest — while sleep preserved weak and strong declarative memories alike.

Stefan Rampp
Honored to chair the symposium “Beyond the Lab – The Potential and Applications of Consumer-Grade Wearables in Sleep Research” at #DGSM2025 (Nov 27–29, Hannover).
We discussed how modern wearables can advance (and sometimes mislead) sleep science:
• Pavlos Topalidis – 8 wearables, 90 PSG nights
• Rob Ter Horst – quantified self with 100+ wearables
• Nicola Cellini – guidelines for scientific validation
• Alexandra Hinterberger – wearables in digital insomnia therapy
Takeaway:
Wearables offer enormous opportunities for large-scale, real-world sleep research—but only with rigorous validation and critical interpretation.
Great talks, great discussions, and an exciting outlook for the future of sleep science.

HRV wearables + AI + digital CBT-I 🌙📡 @sleep2app@dept_psych_sbg
Sleep isn’t just spindles + slow waves.
A new study by us (Ameen et al.) shows the aperiodic brain signal can track transitions between sleep stages in real time — even in intracranial EEG.
Big implications for sleep science.

🧠New study: Hachenberger et al. (2025) analyzed ECG data from 178 people (á 15 nights) with sleep² algorithms — revealing specific sleep-stages linked to stress, mood & cognition.
Wearables+AI= new window into mental health.

New study out! 💤
Digital CBT-I + H10 sleep tracking in natural settings.
In our 10-week field study, insomnia dropped from 92 % → 67 %, with better sleep, mood & QoL (N= 95).

New study out! 💤
Shift workers’ sleep isn’t just about schedules; it’s shaped by psychological factors like anxiety, depression & beliefs about sleep.
Our findings pave the way for new, shift work–specific online therapy for insomnia.

I recently came across your inspiring work in the health and longevity space—and learned that you’re using Polar. Since we’ve just launched Sleep², a high-precision sleep app I thought it might be nice to connect.

One of the main features of pandemic policy was the mass testing of healthy individuals without cause. I spoke to Stanford professor John Ioannidis about the usefulness of this approach. According to Ioannidis, it "ended up being misused and did cost billions of dollars." https://t.co/m9Q5ehYnnJ
Prof. Ioannidis: "Both I and every member of my family were attacked in ways I could never have imagined.[including death threats] When we needed them most, the best epidemiologists just stepped down. Most of the people who dictated the narratives had no clue about epidemiology"https://t.co/m9Q5ehYnnJ
🧪Testosterone, crucial for muscle mass, bone density & libido, peaks during REM! Lack of REM sleep? 📉 Testosterone levels. Prioritize sleep for muscle and sexual health! #HormoneHealth#SleepScience
