An important day for student advocacy, w/ acknowledgment to @minewasko. We strongly urge further consultation with #PSE before deciding which fees would be non-compulsory or reduced. While seeking to “protect students from..increases,” it shouldn’t cost students crucial supports.
#PSE Operating grants will be cut for a 4th consecutive year, there will be no boost in ACCESS program funding to enable more Indigenous & low-income students to attend PSE, and, neither has @MinFielding committed to affordable health care premiums for international students 2/2.
While the MB budget commits $25m for youth and student jobs, an additional $4m in bursaries & $1.4m in interest-free student loans, we believe the budget lacks adequate funding for things student representatives highlighted to government as their priorities #mbpoli - 1/2.

Wk 1 of #StudentsSpeakUp 📣!When government mandates work to stifle bargaining efforts instead of facilitate fair negotiations, it only makes academic disruption more likely. We need to urge the government to #StrikeTheZero & give our institutions real latitude to negotiate 1/2.

When @jmoses6 asked in today’s 2nd reading of Bill 33, “Will [@minewasko] address how...he’ll amend the bill to fix...issues...around student fees?”
We heard confirmation that @minewasko “will be bringing forward an amendment to committee.” NOW, WE NEED YOU! Register below⬇️
JOIN US in speaking at committee if you share these ⬇️ and many other legitimate concerns surrounding #Bill33. Call the clerk at (204)-945-3636 to register #mbpoli#amendBill33
Here’s a look at what #Bill33 is & why gaps remain⬇️ We must ensure the proper protections are in place to preserve a meaningful autonomy for student governments as @minewasko has promised. Not only this, but we must also advocate for crucial services to be preserved across #PSE.
However, WE ARE NOT DONE! Students can make their voice heard in favour of MAPSS’ amendment (which would more clearly exclude fees collected by student unions from the legislation) by signing up to speak at Bill 33 committee proceedings by calling (204) 945-3636. 3/3
After months of meeting with the province about Bill 33, @minewasko has provided return correspondence to The Manitoba Alliance of Post-Secondary Students (MAPSS), stating black on white that the bill will not impact student union fees #mbpoli 1/3
We also presented the Minister with an amendment to Bill 33 which he agrees would be beneficial to explore. His team is working on clarified wording and will provide an update. We thank the Minister for his collaboration & commitment to protect the autonomy of student unions. 2/3
