The #oomycete and marine fungi session today was crowded!

Talk from @marco_thines and Anthony Buaya described several new species and had some gnarly videos of zoospores. Great chance for me to learn more about oomycetes beyond the couple plant pathogens I work with.

Good #Egíls Brewery produces malt extract😅. Sometimes work in Blávík requires improvising a bit, but on the plus side there are a nice view and air so clean that you don't need a laminar flow hood😁.

@dromius @stephenmarek2 Yup, also not happy about it, but it does get worse by waiting. The situation is somewhat similar to former Pythium. It is known for 20+ years that Phytophthora is not monophyletic, so it is high time not closing the eyes on this but to find a solution mirroring phylogeny.

@gloria_abad3 @stephenmarek2 The issue is that Phytophthora isn't monophyletic😕. But overall revision should wait until phylogenomics. The alternative, 250 species of Phytophthora & 300 species of downy mildews (incl. Bremia, Plasmopara & Peronosclerospora) into Peronospora (oldest name) is not reasonable.

@fungolution @stephenmarek2 @FungusCrous Clade 9/10 is always the earliest-diverging clade. Thus, it is fine to include it as an outgroup.

@fburki @ResearchGate That is really horrible - for me ResearchGate was the most useful academic network, but this is a dealbreaker. I seriously hope they will reconsider.
