Good morning @belfastcc
(I know you do not monitor Twitter apparently, but maybe the councillors who are on here bickering will see it)
I know Smithfield Market isn’t your favourite place and to quote your staff “you can’t wait for it to be knocked down” but the tenants here pay a pretty penny to be here and to come into work everyday and watch Smithfield Market descend further and further into something that is reminiscent of the old arcade mall on North Street is incredibly frustrating.
Why would anyone walking through this part of the city think this place is open? You won’t let traders paint the front of their shops, instead demanding we stick with the beige and pastel colours that didn’t even look great years ago when they where first painted (painted by school kids by the looks of it)
You refuse to clean outside it to try and bring in some bit of life to the building yet you insist St George’s and Smithfield are treated the same. St George’s gets pushed on the council social media regularly with paid promotional adverts and Smithfield gets absolutely nothing.
Whatever developer you are cosying up to clearly has a tight hold on who is in charge of here. We get zero communication from those who manage here and if we didn’t happen to be here at 7:30am for the fire alarm check we would Never see them. But if I didn’t pay my rent you’d be all over me and others like a rash. Why should I be prompt in paying when you clearly couldn’t care any less about Smithfield Market as a council building and its land. It’s an embarrassment how this place has been allowed to deteriorate and you should be Ashamed of yourselves as council workers and councillors.
