URGENT ALERT: #WHRD and Journalist Abducted in Mozambique: Free Sheila Wilson
@whrdinitiative is profoundly alarmed by the abduction of Sheila Wilson, a fearless woman defender and journalist working with the Center for Democracy and Development (CDD) in Mozambique. Sheila was forcibly taken earlier this evening by individuals reportedly identified as agents of the Mozambique Police (PRM) and is currently being held incommunicado. Her whereabouts remain unknown.
Sheila was performing her duties as a journalist, covering a peaceful protest by former combatants in front of the United Nations headquarters in Mozambique. During this incident, PRM agents also confiscated equipment from the STV news team present at the scene.
Sheila Wilson’s abduction is an egregious violation of human rights and a direct assault on freedom of the press. Her work as a defender of justice and democracy puts her on the front lines, and now her safety is in grave danger.
We urgently demand the immediate and unconditional release of Sheila Wilson. Mozambique must uphold its international obligations to protect the rights of its citizens, including those who risk their lives to defend human rights and report the truth.
We call upon the international community, human rights organizations, and concerned individuals to join us in condemning this unlawful detention. Raise your voice for Sheila’s safety and freedom. Share her story, demand her release, and stand in solidarity with all those who fight for justice and human dignity.

We stand with you @MARYAMALKHAWAJA ✊🏽
Danish-Bahraini national Abdulhadi Al Khawaja has been arbitrarily imprisoned for 13 years, he must be freed now. We call on @DKinEU to help #FreeAlkhawaja
1/ Great statement by @JosepBorrellF, making a strong case for continued support to #UNRWA
Besides highlighting the pressing humanitarian needs UNRWA is best placed to address, Borrell stresses some points that have received much less attention than they should have... 🧵
SO exciting to see the important work of Narges Mohammadi and women human rights defenders everywhere be recognized by the Nobel Peace Prize ✌️🕊️
We have just wrapped up a week of advocacy training with women defenders from Lebanon & Jordan, the work continues ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼
Some images of last week’s advocacy visit to NYC & DC with Congolese human rights defender @OlivierNdoole !
Olivier is a “green lawyer”. He spoke about the impact of extractive industries on biodiversity and local communities, and threats he faces as a result of his work.
A few behind-the-scenes images from @OlivierNdoole’s speech at #GlobalCitizenFestival@GlblCtzn in New York last week! Over 40K in the audience and 3.3 M online.

I accompanied Olivier to interpret FR<>EN.
Human rights defenders are working to protect the rights of their communities.
They must be able to do their work safely.
Yesterday, we heard from courageous Front Line Defenders awardees:
1. Olivier Bahemuke Ndoole #DRC
2. Rose Hayahay #Philippines
3. Vita Volodovska #Ukraine
From Dublin, @FrontLineHRD staff send solidarity to our former colleague & friend Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, unjustly imprisoned for 12 years in Bahrain.
