The #ClusterMunition Convention has achieved great success.
👉99% of the stockpiles of States Parties have been destroyed, totaling 178.5 million submunitions.
▶️Because 90% of the victims of #ClusterMunitions are civilians
▶️Because many submunitions fail to explode on initial impact (up to 40%) and their remnants contaminate lands for decades
▶️Because children account for 71% of casualties from these #ClusterMunitionRemnants
In 14 years, the #ClusterMunition Convention @ISUCCM has created ostracism of these weapon beyond states parties.
📢States must protect this life-saving convention from all attempts to weaken it!
#StopClusterMunitions
It's absurd to hear such proposals in this day and age. How can any modern country even consider reintroducing landmines? These weapons belong in the past, having proven far more harmful to civilians than militarily useful #MineFreeWorld#Finland
The @ISUCCM regrets today's Lithuanian Parliament decision to evoke Article 20 (2-3) to withdraw from the Convention on Cluster Munitions. The 2008 treaty is an important tool for protecting civilians and ensuring international humanitarian law norms in Lithuania &🌍@unodavienna
The Convention on Cluster Munitions has saved countless lives. The Lithuanian MoD's proposal to withdraw is a dangerous precedent that could erode the norm against these indiscriminate weapons. We implore Lithuania to reject this move https://t.co/5RY3foFbnm
News that Lithuania MoD wants to withdraw from the Cluster Munition Convention is HIGHLY DISTURBING! The treaty saves lives by banning an indiscriminate weapon causing unacceptable harm to civilians. We urge 🇱🇹 to reaffirm its commitment to the Convention https://t.co/jgMVMNu24i
#VictimAssistance isn’t just about providing the service (health, education...), it is about changing the systems and infrastructures that enables people to access that service #MineBanIM#inclusion
➡️Eradicate #Landmines - Empower Lives
📢Assisting #ExplosiveOrdnance victims isn’t just about responding to the individual who experiences a life changing injury that causes disability, it responds to the child who loses a parent, the household who loses their breadwinner or the family who loses their home #MineBanIM
For the future Siem Reap Action Plan #MineBanTreaty, it is crucial to maintain & strengthen commitments to #VictimAssistance, as shown by the needs highlighted in our publication in terms of access to #rehab and #AssistiveTechnology

"75% of Syrians have trauma due to the war, among them my friend Omar. He was deeply traumatized & despite therapy died by suicide a month ago, 8 years after fleeing to Germany" - @MarwaMbayed on the psychological impact of armed conflicts on civilians at the #EWIPA conference.
Tomorrow will take place the 1st follow up conference on the political declaration to better #ProtectCivilians from the use of #ExplosiveWeapons in populated areas
In times of peace, the rights & needs of persons with disabilities are often forgotten. It's even worse in wartime
I had to stay in my flat, and I was terrified that one of my family members would get injured because of me, because I was in a wheelchair and could not leave, says @NujeenMustafa, Syrian disability rights and refugee activist at #ProtectionForum24
Today is the International Day for Mine Awareness!
At the #5RevConf and throughout the year, States must reaffirm their unequivocal attachment to the @MineBanTreaty in particular by condemning all use of #landmines by any actor, under any circumstances
➡️No excuse - to any use!
The Intl Mine Awareness Day reminds us the countless victims of #landmines
For them to be able to realize their rights, affected states must develop inclusive policies&services for all those in need to respond to their specific requirements
📢Eradicating Landmines Empower Lives
