I am fully convinced that 2019 was the last normal year we ever had. Ever since then, it feels like everything’s broken. Everyone is constantly anxious, time moves too fast, and nothing actually feels real anymore. The world as we knew it is just gone
About the Grand Egyptian Museum
Our honourable guests,
Welcome to Egypt.
We will not tell you that this is the largest museum in the world,
for perhaps one of the neighbouring countries might decide to build a museum larger in size, structure, or facilities.
Nor will we tell you that it is the most famous museum in the world,
for indeed, in your own countries there are ancient museums that have earned their reputation and fame through their long history.
We will also not tell you that it is the oldest museum in the world,
for as you know, it is the newest — and your presence here today is to inaugurate it.
But we can say this, with absolute certainty:
It is the most honourable museum in the world.
Because not a single piece within it was stolen from another nation,
nor bought through deception,
nor taken under the weight of colonialism,
nor claimed under the pretext of “shared research.”
Every artefact here is Egyptian — from the soil of Egypt itself.
And so, welcome to this sacred place.
