According to Luis Buñuel, "Simon of the Desert" (1965) was supposed to be a feature length movie. After 18 days of filming, the movie was cut short as the producer Gustavo Alatriste ran out of money.

But according to Silvia Pinal, the movie was supposed to be an anthology with 3 movies by 3 different directors - Federico Fellini, Jules Dassin & Luis Buñuel , all starring Silvia Pinal. When Alatriste approached Fellini & Dassin, both of them agreed, but on the condition that their wives, Giulietta Masina & Melina Mercouri respectively must star in their segments.

Hearing this, Alatriste also wanted to direct the segment with his wife, Silvia Pinal. She said no, and that was the beginning of their separation. She said, "Alatriste could not understand, or at least he was very hurt, when I explained to him that he could not direct beside Buñuel."

P.S: On this day, 61 years ago, "Simon of the Desert" (1965) premiered at the Venice Film Festival, Italy.
