Canada's Public Safety Minister says Apple, Meta, and Signal are "misinterpreting" his surveillance bill.
Apple says the bill would force encryption backdoors. Signal says they'd leave Canada entirely. Meta says it would turn companies into arms of government surveillance.
The minister thinks they just can't read.

Sad to see an org I was so involved with for so many years taking nearly $500k in blood money from ICE. Seriously disappointed with @SANSInstitute today.
I get that the economy is bad and sales are hurting. But taking money from ICE is *a choice*.

It's on Confluence. It's on Sharepoint. It's in the repo. It's in the network share. No not that share, the other share. Yeah, you have to get to that one by logging in to this virtual machine. It was shared in a Teams chat. Oh you're not in that chat, let me add you.

Law enforcement agencies act like there’s no information security risk to wiretapping infrastructure. Meanwhile, hostile nation-states systematically target and successfully exploit these systems, because why wouldn’t they?
I don't check Twitter often enough anymore. Signs of a dying platform. Over three weeks ago this account was hacked and I only noticed today when scrolling through my feed in public 😳

Yesterday they convicted me. I don't even know where to begin. For now, I'll only say this. If you use Tor (@torproject) _OR_ Telnet in Ecuador, you have criminal intent. If you have technical knowledge, you have the possibility of doing a crime. That is enough to be convicted.
“What’s your favorite book?” seems like a good question. So innocent, so simple. In practice, it’s terrible. The people I interview have read hundreds or thousands of books, so it’s a labor-intensive question for them, and they rightly worry about picking a “favorite,” which then gets quoted and put in articles, Wikipedia, etc. “Most gifted” is lower risk, an easier search query (easier to recall), and implies benefits for a broader spectrum of people, which the idiosyncratic “favorite” does not.
@AccidentalCISO I entered university with plans to become a meteorologist. I came out with a computer science degree specializing in information security.
