The AI consciousness debate will never end. The whole thing is built on the assumption we know what consciousness is, when it's literally the most mysterious thing in the universe. Trying to determine whether the machine has it when we can't even define "it" is dumb.
Another notch for my argument that, even with control of the federal government and unlimited financial resources, the Right cannot produce persuasive political aesthetics. Might as well have a hologram of Kid Rock on loop for all of these events.
