Good news if it’s true, it’s the first of many needed steps to save guard 1000’s of pubs and jobs of people who work in them

@BIIandBIIAB
The UK pays one of the highest hospitality VAT rates in Europe, second only to Denmark, putting our industry at a disadvantage and making it harder for people to support their local businesses.
We need action! Get involved in our #TaxedOut campaign:

So very true Tom !, as a publican I see these moments happening every week, it’s real
Life. We must not let our Pubs become even more #taxedout and. Great session on the radio yesterday Thankyou for inviting me
69,000 jobs lost in hospitality since the budget. Run the simulation forward and you quickly get to over 150,000 jobs.
We need to get people off of benefit and paying tax. But the budget has done the opposite.
We’re being #TaxedOut@UKHospKate

We start the week off with some bad news.
69,000 jobs have been lost in Hospitality since the budget, with more to come.
The budget was a disaster for our sector, which many warned about.
We urgently need to reverse this by lowering the NI and by bringing VAT in line with Europe.
We’ve written to the PM about the stark reality of tax increases on hospitality. Last month’s survey showed the effect on business with a third operating at a loss and this is the reality for workers with hours and jobs slashed - we are being #TaxedOut https://t.co/olwbsCuZK5
I could re tweet hundreds like this…
We TOLD you this would happen @RachelReevesMP but you chose to ignore it. This is just the start. IMO Summer may give a little respite but come Autumn when energy bill are ⬆️ & customers ⬇️, this is when you’ll see the real impact.
BII Chair & owner of @NewDawnPub@markrobsonndp on @Channel4News on how growth in the pubs sector is being held back by the Government raising taxes further in April through employment costs & business rates. Write to your MP to get their support 👇 https://t.co/VFSQuZxzeN
Steve Alton, CEO of the BII, has written an open letter to the Chancellor, calling for the cancellation of the planned NICs changes as well as the decreased level of relief on Business Rates bills for pubs until full reform is implemented.

@Sacha_Lord It’s not sustainable, govt have got this wrong and we are so over taxed as an industry. If they don’t change tact many pubs will be lost forever
The UK is facing a severe pub crisis...
From April, pubs with £100,000 rateable value will see Business Rates jump by £19,000 per year.
They'll need to sell an additional:
60,000 pints a year.
Thats 1200 pints a week.
Thats 170 extra pints every single day.
Thats before rising energy bills, rising wages and other costs.
Survival won't be an option for many.
@UKHospKate He’s so right, pubs add so much more to society and to communities than just serving food and drinks. We are incredibly over taxed as a sector worsened significantly by the recent budget and if we don’t take a more significant stand as an industry we will lose many decent pubs
This is the reality for our pubs from the budget announcements, for many of our members these additional taxes are 10% of their turnover, leading to 80% being unprofitable. We need rapid action from Government to address this reality for small pub businesses. @BIIandBIIAB#MyPub
Our official reaction to today's Autumn Budget.
Huge increases in labour costs for our members alongside a reduced rate relief to 40% will stunt investment and growth potential across the sector and affect job security for many.

We're on the verge of losing a third of our pubs.
10% are near imminent closure.
20% are trading insolvent.
If the budget doesn't extend Business Rates Relief, that's them gone.
Huge thanks to @BIIandBIIAB member the Bull Inn at Chesham for rescuing 40 hungry and thirsty walkers today when we were let down by a power cut at our original venue, amazing food and hospitality
