“It’s not the first time in history artists have faced oppression and it won’t be the last.
We should support each other, come together and defend our shared space, our territory, the place where imagination can roam free.
Because if they come for one of us they will eventually come for all. “
On Monday 26/4/26 I gave a speech at the House of Lords, Palace of Westminster to help launch https://t.co/2YhLCM1V7m
Please follow/donate to @Freedom_in_Arts they are doing VITAL work for all of us.”
Indirect take on the current furore re trajedy of Henry+"anti racism". Was once asked if I would consider "unconcious bias training" for staff. Thought & replied that if it was based on Critical Race Theory it's a "hard no". Group-based grievance politics is a road to disaster.
@kwasi_stackbtc@asjwebley@smarterwebuk Is stack staying a pure BTC Investor, or will it take other positions? Am interested in things like XRP and how Ripple is emerging as a major player.
@policylaila couldn't have put it better myself. More utter economic iliteracy from Lab. Unsurprising as almost none have ever started or run a business, or even worked in the private sector, let alone in a senior and responsible position.
@TorstenBell The idea that we lived under some sort of vicious austerity rather than trying (and still at the time failing) to live vaguely with our means is frankly ludicrous.
@CutMyTaxUK I understand that, I get it. Whilst LVT has rare support across the spectrum, it is very theoretical. I'd like to see Cut My Tax come up with sound ideas for radical reform and simplification. All I see though is opposition to almost any ideas. Do you have a "manifesto" as such?
@CutMyTaxUK But isn't the better question-is a form of LVT a BETTER than than say business rates, stamp duty and even IHT. The LVT is and was always meant to replace other bad taxes, incentivise improvements, deter hoarding, & be hard to evade, because you cant hide it or create more of it!
@A1an_M@GoodwinMJ Because reform are not really ready to fight a GE now (candidates, organisation, foot soldiers). Plus Farage has to wait another 5 years, by then he’ll be late 60’s and may not still have it in him?
@DanNeidle@adrianmschmidt@timleunig It would be good to understand how LVT could be structured so as not to hurt it hit farms such that they become less viable that they already are. Or is it the case that land with little value will be taxed little? Farms in the expensive Home Counties and south East?
@TheSecretAcct If you’re genuinely putting capital at risk beyond the moderate (eg capital into businesses) you should not pay as high a rate as your marginal rate. Nor should one be taxed on inflationary gains. What about homes? Capital at risk but it’s low, perhaps a small index linked CGT?
@CutMyTaxUK@TIMGOLDFINCH LVT was called the single tax for good reason, and there is also a rare cross political spectrum support for it, from those on both left & right. Sadly I think Burnham highlighting this is going to drag a necessary, valuable and sensible debate into simplistic sound bites.
@PeterMcCormack@AndyBurnhamGM There is support across the spectrum for things like Land Value Tax. But it needs to be done properly & not as just another wealth tax alongside the ones we have already, that can be considered wealth type taxes. These along with many others ought to be ditched to enable LVT.
@DanielJHannan Also "Crony Capitalism": where large corporations able to influence policy, effectively rig the rules in their favour, thus ensuring smaller challengers face additional hurdles, and find it harder to fairly compete. Result, more stagnation, and little "creative destruction".
As boring as this nobody! However I am happy to lend my voice to this debate, as I think it is needed. Please check out the others @RosieKayK2CO, Josh Breslaw & @roisinmurphy. Cancelled for being Jewish? Cancelled for raising concerns about using puberty blockers on kids? Really?
Now live: Mark Tughan’s full speech from the @Freedom_in_Arts parliamentary launch of The New Boycott Crisis and the Art Beyond Boycott Toolkit.
“In comedy, if you don’t take risks, it gets dull, it gets safe, it gets a bit boring.”
