@astridwilde1 It's going to be a bit, have to wait for quants for many people to run and asses it, when Gemma 4 came out there were several quantization errors that hampered it as well so we may see similar here.
@xlr8harder@emollick True and it makes sense for them since it increases demand for their products, I am more concerned about regulatory risks preventing open source models in the future
@emollick I take the darker side: Bots become "good enough" that humans no longer care if they are speaking to one or not. "MyBoyfriendisAI" subreddit is just the vanguard.
@sanjaynediyara@karpathy I'm running it on an old laptop, works just fine with 12gb of ram, no need to buy a mac mini if you have cheaper hardware. I think the mac mini is just more convenient if you don't have old hardware lying around.
@eigenrobot Anecdotal, but I have a 7 year old niece who recently went from reading story books, to having an AI app generate stories to her specification, then acting them out, including voices.
@bayeslord The TikTok part of the app is slop, but generating your own videos can be fun, I animate pictures I take, have the dog dance, make a fish I caught sing, animate a kids drawing, have a plushie sing to a niece, etc.
@emollick This is actually something that has increasingly been ruining Sci-Fi for me, I can't seem to find many decent stories that take actual AI into account in a way that seems realistic given recent progress.
@nearcyan I have considered replacing my dual monitors with a single ultra widescreen but I like to snap windows to different screens and keep separate applications on different screens and am not sure I would like losing that
@kentcdodds@dhh@tobi I bought one of these recently and like it, leaves the clothes a little damp but worth it to not have to take wet clothes from one machine and put them in another
Just be aware that the machine itself is very big
@yacineMTB I actually just sold my house that I had been in 10 years last month and moved to the lake, highly recommend. (If you look closely you can see the Starlink antenna I have setup on the dock)
