@JDS2882@R_o_M My, you’ve got thin skin. Barca have always been threadbare self-styled aristocrats. Fine, just don’t lend them money. Agree about City, though. All the money, no class.
@RedDave14@eoinyk It’s a poorly taught subject here. Never placed in the context of the utterly exploitative approach to human labour at the time or since.
@RedDave14@eoinyk This is misleading way of putting it. The compensation was all paid at the time of abolition. As the amount was 40% of the national budget at the time, the compensation was funded through loans that were later restructured. 2015 is a guess at when the loan was finally paid off.
@kyalXIII@PhilosophyLines@ahmedsohail The English were the first to limit the Monarch’s power. In the Christian tradition, Kings got their authority directly from God and therefore had absolute power on earth. The Magna Carta challenged that and progressively power moved to parliament and the rule of law.
It’s mental health awareness week so I just wanted to remind people that what you see is not always what is going on behind the scenes. This photo was a selfie my husband took and posted on Facebook just before he came home and ended his life. Nobody at the party that night had
Central Park is great, but it takes up a lot of space and isn’t utilized to its full potential.
That’s why I worked with McKinsey on a plan to make it a state of the art data center, complemented by rooftop parking and nuclear power.
We can still build beautiful things.

@mischawatson@DaleJohnsonBBC@DarranLea A lot of disagreement on the totality of what happened in the box on Sunday. It was rationalised in terms of 'thresholds' that have never previously been described.
@DarranLea@DaleJohnsonBBC A further demonstration of how VAR is taking us all down absurd rabbit holes. The precision it offers is illusory. Peering at video frames just moves the same problems of interpretation and certainty to a different place - it doesn't get rid of those problems.
For the majority of my adult life @UKLabour has made itself unelectable. Blair as leader got the party into power and so did Starmer. Obviously large parts of @UKLabour hate them both with a passion.
