Grateful to see @bbcchinese cover my latest for @C4ADS. Mainland Chinese enablers need to understand that their dealings with Russian defense industry actors remain under scrutiny. These dealings *will* be added to the record.
🧵By the Numbers: Highlights from the latest #BearMarketBrief
1) 23 terabytes - the amount of data the Belarusian Cyber Partisans and Silent Crow hacking groups claim to have exfiltrated from the Russian state statistical agency Rosstat on November 1. More below👇️
Russia spent two decades turning itself into a #grain superpower — the world’s top wheat exporter with roughly 21% of the global market and tens of billions in export revenue. Officials even called grain a “silent weapon.”
That model is now under real stress. Ukrainian strikes on Black Sea and Azov ports in 2026 have disrupted the routes that normally carry the bulk of Russian grain. Exports have fallen sharply, alternative corridors (Baltic, Caspian, even experimental Arctic shipments) cannot fully compensate, and domestic prices have collapsed. Many producers are selling below cost; a large share are operating at a loss. Importers in Africa and elsewhere are already diversifying.
Loginov’s analysis for @RiddleRussia shows how the war is forcing the Kremlin to prioritize military objectives over the full recovery of one of its few remaining high-value export sectors — with consequences for both Russian farmers and the global grain market.

Lee Block and András Tóth-Czifra note three challenges facing the Russian Duma:
1. The government faces a fiscal deficit
2. Energy revenues are declining and uncertain
3. Receipts from corporate taxes are lower than expected

Russia has built a new pro-war cinema canon since 2022 — state-funded films meant to explain the Ukraine war and “re-educate” liberals. They’re formulaic, heavily subsidized, and consistently flop. Why?

Andrew Perpetua and his team have counted 106,951 Russian soldiers killed in videos published over 797 days of the war.
That videos released publicly capture only 20% of Russian military deaths.
If his assumptions are correct, the total number of Russian soldiers killed over two years and two months could exceed half a million.
The full-scale war has now been going on for 1,712 days.
Mediazona's estimates also suggest that Russian military deaths have exceeded half a million, even though their calculations have so far only reached 2025.
As a reminder, Mediazona has already documented 282,993 Russian soldiers killed, identified by name.
It is reasonable to suggest that this may be the first sacrifice of human lives on such a scale in history.
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed, with the death toll approaching a million, in exchange for negligible military gains.
