@2ShelfLove@absolutelyamyyy But at home, they can jump in a cool shower, lie down, wash faces, eat ice pops. We tried so hard this week but couldn’t stop kids becoming ill from the heat.
@WardProWords@sciantificnew That’s if there’s enough shade; if not, keeping them in boiling rooms is not keeping them safe. Lots of sick children after three days of relentless overheating this week despite a relaxed timetable and uniform. Film in the hall was the only option and that is just child care.
@mrjustinriggs@sciantificnew No teacher I know wants to be called a hero. All we want is proper funding to provide the best education for the children and in a safe environment. Keeping children in classrooms that hit 30 by 10am day after day and makes them ill is not keeping them safe; it’s reckless.
@RogersHistory We stayed open. No air con. No fans. Classrooms overheating by 10am. Colleague in neighbouring school collapsed with heat exhaustion yesterday and still we kept going with everyone feeling ill by this morning. No learning; just babysitting and still people say that’s ok.
@RogersHistory I do worry about people who haven’t taught for many years - not taught the 2014 curriculum, not since Covid, not taught these digital kids - making judgements. Long standing teachers will tell you that children now are quite different as is teaching them.

@Headteacherchat Looked up on Google the question, ‘Do orangutans smile?’ for a child who was writing a NCR on orangutans who said he wanted to write about their teeth but couldn’t because he hadn’t seen them smiling much.
@MichaelRosenYes@SwailesRuth @PaulBushen The driving analogy has to be one of the strangest arguments ever. We learn to drive because we want to travel so we have a goal. Listening to stories gives children a reason to learn so that reading does not become an abstract set of rules but a gateway to the same enjoyment.

@adamboxer1 Can I add to your list? Being ‘coached’ by someone who has not taught for over 15 years. Children now are very different to 15 or 20 years ago and all teachers I work with give everything and want to improve but being ‘observed’ weekly is unfair pressure.
