📽️ On the Makdisi Street podcast, Ta-Nehisi Coates points to Drop Site’s Jeremy Scahill and his interview with Rep. Ro Khanna to highlight how dominant political and media narratives restrict what even progressives understand about Palestine.

Coates recounts Scahill pressing Khanna on whether Palestinians have the right to attack soldiers and military bases of an occupying power. Khanna refused to grant the right, invoking King and Gandhi, even as he conceded that Israel’s US-backed assault amounts to genocide.

Coates reads Khanna’s evasions as ignorance rather than malice, arguing that he seemed unaware the issue of resistance to occupation has long been settled under international law.

“Our greatest weakness,” Coates says, “is just how little we know.”

Zios think they can continue to just make up history as they go along to suit their fairytale narrative. But history and facts matter, however inconvenient.

Jewish life in Al-Andalus under Muslim rule, especially during the Caliphate of Córdoba is well-documented as the "Golden Age" of Jewish culture in Spain (which didn't exist as a state by that name, by the way). Jews served as wazirs, scholars, poets, physicians there, NOT in Palestine as the post below claims. They did so just as Ashkenazi Jews had their distinct communities throughout Europe and throughout west Asia and North Africa. They were not, and never were, a single ethnic or "national" group (nations didn't really exist then).

When Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon married, joining their armies to march on AlAndalus, it ended over 800 years of Muslim rule. Ironically, Jews left too, following their Muslim compatriots, because Isabela and Ferdinand's rule meant they would be forced to convert or be killed.
