@TeWhatuOra@Davidxvx Where is the evidence that under 30s whose last vaccinations were 2 years ago provide good protection? There's plenty of evidence to refute it. Why is NZ's position so different to the CDC's? They recommend updated boosters to everyone >6 mths "to protect against serious illness"
@TeWhatuOra The CDC currently recommend an updated COVID-19 vaccine booster for everyone aged 6 months and older "to protect against serious illness from COVID-19." https://t.co/wrGlSfOJNf
Why are NZ under 30s still not eligible for boosters with the updated vaccines?

What protection do NZ children vaccinated 2 years ago now have against infection with the current variants? against long covid? against severe illness? against post-covid sequelae such as damage to their heart, lungs, immune system?
@covid19nz Can you provide references to support your statement about the duration of protection for children? What about protection against infection and long covid? I'm seeing more and more children with long covid - huge impacts on their health and quality of life.
@covid19nz The CDC currently recommend that "Everyone aged 5 years and older should get 1 dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against serious illness from COVID-19." Also for under 5s. https://t.co/fqb7IXLSnO
Will updated boosters for kids be available in NZ?

I taught a university course this last semester. In person. Up to 100 students in the lecture theatre. I managed to avoid catching #COVID19, or any kind of virus, actually. Here's the scoop: /1
New paper on Masks:
Some claim scientific studies show masks don’t work, or that surgical masks are as good as N95s. Just released paper shows this claim is false. Masks work, and N95 respirators give a much higher benefit than surgical masks.1/
“Covid is not just a respiratory virus” “it infects coronary artery plaques” "I can't think of another virus that stimulates the sequence of events in coronary artery inflammation like we're seeing here." “Drs/pts need to be aware if CVS risk after Sars2” https://t.co/HyljDBcV7k
🧵 2 rare tales of true personal responsibility
Tale 1
My husband received a text from colleague “S” saying his son had just tested cvd+ after school camp last week
My husband had 1 hr meeting with S today, so S wanted to let him know he had been exposed to a 2ndary contact
@AmandaKvalsvig How can we effectively communicate the scientific evidence of health harms to school leaders? Most are unaware of/unwilling to accept this - they fall back on MoE guidance, which rates the risk as 'low'... Some schools are even unwilling to follow MoH recommendations.
@Sunny_Rae1 What bizarre policies - they seem to be aiming to reduce attendance rather than improve it. I would not want these people responsible for my child's education, let alone their welfare
I'm a teacher with a psychology degree, not an expert on infectious diseases and their effects on the brain.
But I can tell you this:
If you send a message to children that you SHOULDN'T EVEN TRY, when something is challenging, then their learning will be affected.
@covid19nz You know what would provide peace of mind + improve mental health?
1. Immediate access to updated vaccines for everyone
2. Ventilation and air purification in all indoor spaces
3. Requiring sick people to stay home
4. Mask mandates in health care
5. Less gaslighting
The CDC #ACIP meeting has voted to make XBB.1.5 boosters available in the US for everyone 6+ months of age. The US hasn’t restricted the booster to older or immunocompromised people.
Let’s do the same in New Zealand @minhealthnz@covid19nz and let’s make it happen in 2023
My quiet nudging (and some suggestion around health and safety risk to the board) has resulted in my kids school getting organised and getting MoE$ to get 14CO2 monitors and connected to a hub etc for monitoring! Bloody happy as hopefully some relief next winter
@Owairaka2 @CatherineQ@CovidSafeNZ@kejames My younger primary likes the Safea kids size and can get a good fit. But...the Safea website seems to have disappeared and they're now for sale at https://t.co/Ay5yt8lB3I
