It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.
So it’s official: Reuters has confirmed that the White House gave the order to disrupt Starlink so Russia could attack Kyiv with no advanced warning. The US aided and abetted Putin’s killing of numerous civilians in Ukraine. Trump’s a traitor, a Russian asset who is using US military technology to help our enemy.
Found it. 🔎 I went back through Cleveland-Cliffs’ own public statements and SEC filings, and they explicitly acknowledge the Canadian government undertakings, including employment commitments.
This goes well beyond Ottawa’s announcement. Here’s what Cleveland-Cliffs itself put on the public record. 👇
1️⃣ July 15, 2024: Acquisition announcement
“Stelco will maintain significant employment levels in Canada and Canadian representation on the management team.”
Cliffs also committed to retaining Hamilton headquarters, continuing operations in Hamilton and Nanticoke, and making capital investments. This announcement was included as an exhibit to its SEC Form 8-K.

2️⃣ October 8, 2024: Investor presentation filed with the SEC
“ICA Undertakings support net benefit to Canada”
“Commitments to maintain employment levels in Canada”
Those were the company’s own words describing the acquisition’s path to closing. It explicitly acknowledged employment commitments connected to the Investment Canada Act review.

3️⃣ October 30, 2024: Ottawa’s approval statement 🇨🇦
“To continue to employ at least the same number of unionized employees and the vast majority of non-unionized employees”
The government described a package of binding, five-year undertakings. These covered employment, collective agreements, pensions, headquarters, investment and environmental performance.

4️⃣ 2024 annual report: Form 10-K, page 27 📄
“we may be unable to satisfy our operational, employment, environmental or other undertakings or commitments made to the Canadian government”
In the SAME acquisition-risk section, Cliffs separately warned that U.S. tariffs could hurt Stelco’s business.
That matters. The company acknowledged both the undertakings and the risk of tariffs. The passage does not state that one automatically cancels the other.

Will you be signing any of your books that we bring with us to the Holy Grail screening in Toronto this Friday…..?

Remember that time Stephen Harper sold Stelco to US Steel in 2007?
Remember when US Steel promised to maintain an average of 3105 workers?
I’m from Hamilton, so I remember.
Stelco hasn’t produced steel in Hamilton since 2013.

These two stole all the bags of firewood available for sale roadside for the second time in less than a month.
They have enough money for a +$100k Denali pickup but would rather steal than pay people for their hard work.
Make them famous, these people are turning Canada into a low trust society.
For years, New Yorkers have demanded access to City records about the lasting health impacts of the horrific September 11th attacks. For years, they have been denied and ignored.
That ends today.
My administration is launching a free online portal for 9/11-related documents and releasing the first 170,000 pages today — available now at https://t.co/YnJTIIZ3lt.
These records prove what families and first responders have long known: City government knew the conditions around Ground Zero were dangerous — yet lied to New Yorkers.
Thousands pay the price for this. They bear the effects of that day every time they struggle to breathe or visit the doctor. More people have died from 9/11-related illnesses than were killed on the day itself.
As we mark twenty five years since September 11th, our vow to Never Forget will not waver. We will remember — and honor — those we have lost with the accountability and honesty they deserve.
Canadians look out for one another. It’s who we are.
The women and men I met this week at the Thunder Bay Fire Management Centre have been working relentlessly to keep people safe through one of Ontario’s worst wildfire seasons on record.
Service. Courage. Canada at its best.
Electricity demand in Canada is expected to double by 2050. So we need to double our grid.
We’re getting it done with our new National Electricity Strategy: to power Canada strong with clean, affordable, reliable electricity.

Bob Rae: "I wouldn't talk about Mark Carney and Howard Lutnick in the same sentence if I were you. Mr. Carney's tone was respectful. And it was intelligent. I'll let Howard Lutnick’s comments stand for themselves."
