I tried recreating a GPUI's animation example in my C based UI inspired by @rfleury's raddbg UI. Compiled with -O3, full LTO and march=native on both examples, without OBS, I can reach 3K+ fps while GPUI can barely reach 200. And I'm on a i7-4790k. #gpui#handmade
@rfleury May I ask which resources did you use for learning about X11 WM interactions on Linux ? I have an app for Linux working but would like to make the X11 layer high quality with Clipboards and partial compositing support etc. I'll also look at raddbg source.
@borrowck_novel@rfleury More uncapped FPS is just a signal that you could do more on the UI scene in a same capped budget (60/120 fps). More widgets, more interactions, lower CPU usage relatively.
Posted GPUI example here: https://t.co/Fv9ZYTpiCU.
@tapo4eg3d Posted the GPUI example gist - https://t.co/Fv9ZYTpiCU but it runs capped cuz of Vsync. Needed to patch the platform client to force uncapped refresh. Probably there is an easier way.
@samuelgozi I love your color scheme. Are you using any specific theme from a design system or something you defined yourself ? I'm building an immediate mode GUI based of raddbg as well but I lack your amazing design taste. Keep up the good work !
for anyone curious about the implementation, i recommend this amazing series by Ryan Fleury that changed the way i think about UI

@molecularmusing For them, the journey doesn't matter, the hard work and learning doesn't matter.
Just getting things done whichever way is the most convenient so they can get back to their non-stop brain stimulation and entertainment while continuing to produce slop.
@BeardyBrandon Few things that helped me
- Make sure your heart rate is lower than ur resting heart rate. A hammock shaped graph is good.
- Meditation and few breathing exercises before sleep to calm the mind and heart
- Look at the sun in the morning same time everyday
Hope that helps !
