@MathAndCobb@Anthony_Bonato This. Understanding what a theorem is amounts to understanding implication formally. If anything I think we underemphasize this.
Today I said "using root notation and fractional powers in the same expression is like changing the font in the middle of a word." This clearly resonated as many students visibly cringed.
@kimdayers@meresar_math I've wondered about this. Even before equity became a prominent concern, the EC always created a bias toward people who could travel.
We did JMM interviews, but it may be a convesation next time. On the other hand, that's about the only way to get travel funding now.
@mikeandallie It would be more fun (i.e., harder) if "none of these" were an option. As is, you can dodge understanding why II is true, which isa little sad.
@ndchiappini Last time I looked I had a comment that said "I knew all of the material and still couldn't get more than a B on exams." If only there was some way to test that initial claim...
Anyway, I haven't checked mine in years.
@ahc I think we are already there in math. I use automated graders on online homework all the time - the instant feedback is great. So I lecture less in class to reclaim the interaction we lost through homework.
