The Socialists will not support LFI’s censure motion that targets Bayru’s budget. Effectively, they have split up the New Popular Front (NPF). Macron’s strategy has succeeded. The Socialists’ own censure motion against Bayru will be tabled after the budget is imposed by Bayru. It is not meant to succeed – just to give the Socialists the opportunity to gain relevance vis-à-vis LFI and Le Pen’s RN.
For even if LFI, the Communist Party and the Greens vote in favour of the Socialists’ own post-budget censure motion, without Le Pen’s it cannot succeed. But the Socialists have ensured that the RN will not vote with them by making their censure motion all about Bayru’s xenophobic “submersion” quip, essentially a call by the Socialists to strengthen the cordone sanitaire against the RN. In this manner, the Socialists hope to steal the thunder from both LFI and RN.
In short, the Socialists have done Macron’s work for him. In fact, they saved him from his gross error to use Michel Barnier with a brief to get closer to the RN. But, in doing so, the Socialists have destroyed the left’s chances, through the NPF, to create a common narrative that counters the surge of the chauvinist, xenophobic ultra-right. History will judge them harshly, as it has done before. But their eagerness to walk again down the corridors of power overpowers any morsels of scrupples that remained in their souls. https://t.co/aYcxsblkGs
Notez bien chaque politique qui vous aura qualifié d’antisémite pour avoir lutté contre un génocide en cours qui aujourd’hui rend hommage à celui qui a nié l’horreur de la Shoah et porté l’antisémitisme le plus crasse.
