Locked-up hips are quietly destroying your speed, power, and athleticism
You feel stiff, slow, heavy, and more prone to injury because you’re not fixing the root
These are the 5 moves I have every athlete do weekly to unlock their hips and get them moving right again
Save this. Do them consistently
You’ll feel and perform noticeably better almost immediately 👇
@108_Performance@_joeycunha@Isaac_Raley I’ve shared y’all’s content 100’s of times over the years since I stumbled across you guys when Isaac was about 9. Some listen and some think they already know everything. I know he’s not the player he is today without the knowledge I gained from you both
@108_Performance@_joeycunha My son @Isaac_Raley just finished up his freshman year and earned a starting spot on varsity by mid season. He got to help his school compete and win their 11th LHSAA state title. I wanted to say thanks being my coaches that helped me help him.
@JakeMartinOC My son played the 14U spring travel season with Austin. Great kid and an absolute physical talent that hits balls with authority and makes it look effortless. There is an incredible amount of NELA talent in the 2029 class.
If you struggle to squat deep without butt-winking or feeling locked up in your hips, try these two simple exercises in your warm up.
They will help you squat to full depth with good form that will help carry over to more loaded squats in your workout 👇
Proper neck training improves posture, makes you stronger on most all other movements, provides injury protection & for men w/wide shoulders, ensures you don’t look like you have the wrong (small) head on your frame (!) Women can strengthen neck w/o size increase BTW. See below.
Most athletes only think of “strength” as what they do under a barbell.
But the forces your body encounters in sprinting and jumping are far greater than anything in the weight room.
Here’s why
- A squat is controlled force against a bar
- Sprinting & jumping are collisions
As a high school player looking to get recruited, there are 2 main stats you should focus on.
Walks and strikeouts.
If you are able to limit free bases and miss bats, you will attract attention.
When looking at your walk and strikeout numbers, use percentages instead of K/9 and BB/9.
To calculate this, simply divide total walks (and strikeouts) by total batters faced.
For walks the goal is <10%. Elite is <7%.
For strikeouts the goal is >25%. Elite is >30%.
Most high school pitchers think they walk less batters than they actually do.
Breakdown your numbers and see where you actually stand.
Of course your velo and stuff matter (which will influence these numbers), but if you can't throw strikes or miss bats you will have a hard time finding playing time.
@ScoutSteveR Any word on where Jake Gautreau may be headed next? I’ve had a couple interactions with him on campus and always left impressed by his willingness to interact with grace and class with a random fan like me.
Med ball throws allow us to train explosive hip and knee extension, coordinate full-body sequences, and introduce movement variability without losing intent.
They’re one of the most versatile and underutilized tools in athletic development.
✅ High-force, high-velocity
