@AmandaChadburn Having said which, you know my theory about the greater cursus and its relationship to both Stonehenge and the midsummer sun, so maybe the Altar Stone has been where it is now since it first arrived - whenever that was.

We need to consider the possibility that the Altar Stone came to #Stonehenge around 3000, when the henge was built, at the same time that the Orcadian Grooved Ware we used to call Woodlands first appears in the area (at Bulford and Longbarrow, for instance).

@AmandaChadburn I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Altar Stone's position isn't the result of (perhaps repeated) alteration - as probably the bluestones. I can't see how we'll ever know for sure, though.
