Caught up with Rahul Dewan of Sarayu Trust at his office in Janpath, the man behind Sangam Talks which so many have watched and learned from. He now had a new mission of creating a 1000 crore rupee fund for Hindu causes. Unlike other religions which receive millions of dollars of funding, Hindus do not donate for the cause of preserving their unique civilization which offers so many gifts to the world. Gurukulas are struggling for funding, lawyers fighting for Hindu causes are having to find their own resources, manuscripts are lying around without proper digitization, translation and easy access to scholars; it’s really pitiful. Even though we are smiling here for the camera, I came back feeling rather sombre. Rahul challenged me to do some fundraising instead of the easier job of researching and writing. What did we learn this Christmas?

The nativist far-right and radical progressive left hate us for the same reasons:

—the left hates us for our economic success because they think it’s on the back of other minorities. The far-right hates us because they think it’s on the backs of white people.

—the left hates us for backing legal, high-skilled migration saying it’s on the backs of undocumented, low-skilled migration. The right hates immigrants. Period.

—the left hates us for upholding our spiritual values & traditions as they want revolution & want to burn it all down. The right hates us as we’re not Abrahamics and we are the most resistant religious group to be evangelization & religious conversion.

—the left hates us for fighting against caste laws that single us out & bring foreign identity politics to America. The right hates us because they want to throw caste in our face to otherize and problematize our religious traditions.

We will keep receipts as to who targeted us and who stood by us this Christmas Day.
