Proud to share my first author publication from my PhD work in @ACSPublications !
Vitamin B2 is essential for the survival of all organisms. We show how bacteria can completely break down this important molecule. If you love vitamins, this is a must read!

New research in Science represents a notable step forward in designing enzymes from scratch.
With a new approach, researchers designed an enzyme that uses a covalent intermediate to catalyze a two-step reaction, analogous to what many proteases do when breaking apart proteins.

I'm finally on my way! After a long, relaxing summer, I'm finally headed to Tokyo as a @jsps_sns Postdoctoral Fellowship. I'll spend the next few years working with Prof. Abe and the many talented scientists @UTokyo_News Lab of Natural Products Chemistry.
I'm ready to get back in the lab and continue to discover some interesting things about natural products and biosynthesis, as well as enjoy my new Tokyo life! 🧫🧬🧪👨🏻🔬🗼🏙️🗻
I'm very grateful to my PhD advisor @MChangGroup and a long-time mentor @hanzyduzit for their support in helping me get here! Of course, I'm grateful to Prof. Abe for taking this chance on me.
We should make "Very GMO" plant snacks. Like, bespoke, artisanal GMO. Limited edition glowing apples etc. Tie dye banana chips. Kombucha with yfp served in uv lit bottles.
Very happy to share the final chapter of my postdoc time in the Abe group @UTokyo_News . Wondering how a PLP-dependent enzyme utilizes NAD and SAM as substrates for a (3+2)cycloaddition to construct azaindane natural products? https://t.co/x65vADfM97
Unique highly hetero-substituted benzenes are defence compounds from tiny springtails. The minute amounts available needed the combination of GC/MS, GC/IR, DFT-calculation, and synthesis to arrive at the structures. Chem. Sci. https://t.co/T6QQe72uiT
A Manic Monday? We are excited to bring you the first PLP enzyme catalyzing intermolecular Mannich reaction @J_A_C_S https://t.co/IBmS5YCuzU This work is led by the amazing postdoc @shaonan_liu and supported by @ACSGCI
Interesting how unrelated Fe-S clusters with different cluster geometries both facilitate LA-catalyzed DA reaction in biosynthesis. Would be cool to see how various ferredoxins fare against panels of inter/intramolecular DA substrates https://t.co/9JGieprAUg
We are excited to finally publish the unprecedented biosynthetic origins of enediyne natural products: iodinated polyynes! This transformative discovery is a huge milestone for these clinical antitumor antibiotics. @Kalkreuter@guichun98@nchembio

Anyways, biology has so many unusual phenotypes and my favorite are chemical! Discovering interesting (bio)chemical phenotypes and how they interact with the world around them hopefully will lead me to long, exciting, and engaging career.
We got the published version out! During review, we re-examined our stereochemical assignment of absolute configuration. Thanks to @biotools we were able to use vibrational circular dichroism to confidently assign the abs. config. of pazamide :)
And we began thinking about how these metabolites *could* facilitate plant-bacteria interactions! Much work is needed to make definitive claims, but I'm glad we could take even a small stab at the "raison d'etre" of this biochemical pathway, a too-often overlooked question
