The West won't reindustrialise because doing it at any scale could only be done with a short-term dramatic drop in living standards & currency value. Democracy can't do longterm planning, replacement migration & pension-states will just grind on until they can't.
@Felix_Nuno Usually having people seeking products from abroad isn’t claimed as companies “having access” but mutually beneficial trade. We need phones, computers, apps, ai. You’re writing rn in an American app. We’re dependent and not creating ourselves and that’s more problematic
@posta_octavian “The local industry “ was the first to move to China. Perhaps removing VAT or improving productivity would be the answer, not to take even more money from people reducing their consumption room more. Or remove half public sector and put them into smth actually productive here
@posta_octavian We don’t have a local industry.
Most our companies buy from China, then resell here much more expensive. Oh and they don’t pay VAT taxes, only customer does. So if China is so bad then why did companies offshore all manufacturing there? Only bad when the public benefits?
@SeanKellyMEP@other_europe Eu businesses would do better if people had money to spend. Youth/students spend majority on mortgage and simple living since boomers let housing assets rise much faster than wages. Removing VAT and lower taxes would free up money, but rn we need to pay boomers pensions + housing
@EU_Propaganda We’ve literally offshored our entire textile industry and most manufacturing for decades? Big companies have done that to use cheaper labor and larger profits for themselves. Prada, Burberry and Zara literally manufacture in China. They just sell it more expensive here.
@Robiwan60@EUCouncil No
Per item
1 tshirt for 5€ and 1 pair of sunglasses for 10€ will have 3€ each. 10 different product types = 30€. 20 different = 60€.
Meanwhile 10 identical shirts = 3€
@EU_Commission 3€ per item? 20 different types of products worth 149€ will be total 209€. Adding another item making it 150€ square will be the 25% duty, making that 187,5€? Why aren’t you adding a % on things under 150€ then?
@posta_octavian@erikkristiaan We’ve literally offshored our entire textile industry and most manufacturing for decades? What industry?
Wealthy companies have done that to use cheaper labor and larger profits. Prada, Burberry and Zara literally manufacture in China . They just sell it more expensive here
@posta_octavian@Nymne If China produces products for no value just to give us that would be called charity and they would apparently care more then the governments we have who give away welfare and money to other countries instead actually.
@posta_octavian@Nymne And who will that be worst for? Poor people. Single mothers. Etc. It’s not 60 year old boomers with millions in housing assets they’ve inflated. It’s teens-30 who work often in low wage jobs, students, etc. Salaries vs housing price. That consumption room changes entire budgets

A Scandinavian economist once boasted to Milton Friedman:
“In Scandinavia, we have no poverty.”
Friedman replied:
“That’s interesting, because in America, among Scandinavians, we have no poverty, either.”
