PARENTS! We must be the push. We have to demand the justice that our children deserve now. Don’t let ANYONE make you think that we have to keep our children stuck in the mediocrity and the stagnation that is often caused by the lack of moral courage and the belief that we should be satisfied and therefore paralyzed by gradualism that tiptoes toward justice when it should be reality now. We need bold co-created solutions that definitely disrupt systems that believe our children are only capable of or worthy of outcomes like this. That is the trauma we need to stop putting students and families through.
Yesterday at the DPS Board meeting. Reflection 1. I hear elected folks play to the crowd about “more mental health resources” or “counselors not cops” or “full time nurses in every school.” None of these things I disagree with. Yet, the 2023-24 budget was approved with no public discussion. 7-0 on the consent agenda. Not held by one person to discuss. The mechanism that could make these things happen got no air time but nearly two hours was spent talking about calendar guardrails or flexibilities for one school and the innovation zone it is in. Make it make sense. Just in case you don’t know, board responsibilities, “Develop, approve and manage the budget.” Read it again. https://t.co/O6ehhQYU71 Not one second of discussion. But man, school calendars! @dps_k12@NMartinez_CO@TeRay_Esq@Rosemar44249134@ColemanforCO@alangott @ApBridgeBuilder @mayamoo25@Parker_Baxter@EdunomicsLab #equitybeginsandendswithbudget
there are three rules
1. If you do not go after what you want, you will never have it
2. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no
3. If you do not step forward, you will remain in the same place
