We used this opportunity to get a very silly (and great) photo of team “we’re coming for you, CMV!” 😁 It’s a fantastic group ready to battle this common pathogen. Big congratulations to its most senior member!!
Congratulations on a great Ph.D. defense, Dr. Laura Azouz @lauraazouz !! Laura discussed her investigation of the peptide specificity of an affinity matured TCR that targets cytomegalovirus’ pp65 peptide. @TexasChE
In addition to substantial contributions to CMV targeting efforts in progress, she’s published very nice work on antibodies that bind myocilin: https://t.co/jaqClEFfZa Laura also has incredible skill in teaching and has made a big impact on many UT undergrads during her PhD!
AND we met baby goats and big rabbits at the “Clock Knot” sculpture and “Monochrome for Austin” canoes through Paws for Publuc Art @LandmarksUT. Truly a lovely day to be @TexasLonghorns!
We also finally got to meet Susan Marqusee from the @MarquseeLab in person today and enjoyed a wonderful talk from her on protein dynamics and folding!
This has been a great collaboration on an incredibly interesting and difficult virus, CMV. The manuscript includes outstanding work from ILS grad student Alison Lee, who developed our CMV neutralization assay and applied it to a large number of samples with quick turnaround!
Excited to share the pre-print describing our efforts to stabilize the HCMV gB ectodomain in a prefusion-like conformation. We and others have now routinely stabilized class I viral fusion proteins, but class III viral fusogens have been more difficult.
Congrats on an incredibly successful internship to @Ines_S_Pinto who visited us for a few months from @cnc_uc ! She quickly learned all we could teach her and has a very bright future ahead. Many thanks to the @UTPortugal@CockrellSchool program. We will miss you, Ines!!
The Advanced Protein Therapeutics Core Facility in the Maynard Lab is looking for an early stage post-doc to join us! Please share and find more info here: https://t.co/8uXsm0D10q
Our Advanced Protein Therapeutics Core had a great time last week with our Short Course on Antibody Phage Panning! Many thanks to the participants for all of the "phun" with phage! Keep up with the APT core and future offerings on our website: https://t.co/se9RfOozky
Check out some of Dzifa's very cool work (with more to come) helping us understand the role of ACT and pertactin in pertussis pathogenesis here:

We are so happy to congratulate Dr. Dzifa Amengor on her outstanding PhD defense! Dzifa has been such an impactful researcher and wonderful group member in our lab. We will miss her so much!
Dzifa is actively entertaining offers in the biotech and therapeutic development industries. She is so adept and sharp and will be an incredible asset to whoever is lucky enough to work with her! https://t.co/AgZtSew6pA
Ahlam Qerqez, Ph.D. 2022 @TexasChE, to attend the upcoming 72nd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting with the 2020 cohort of Young Scientists. More on her work and this prestigious event: https://t.co/FycdyAuqls
#LINO23@CockrellSchool
It's an incredible day for structure-based vaccine design, and I'm thrilled to see our prefusion RSV F antigen get approved as the first RSV vaccine. Still more work to do to reduce the RSV disease burden, but this will help! Congrats @BarneyGrahamMD! https://t.co/8L5JaNy49o
Dr. Kevin Entzminger, former Maynard Lab rockstar, has new outstanding work out on cross-reactive SARS-CoV-2 spike directed antibodies with his team @AbwizBio - check it out! https://t.co/XTY6hkEdOE
I am once again bringing the term "spike protein" back into your life. A team at UT found a component all known coronaviruses have in common. It's not prone to mutation, so by targeting it, researchers hope they can create universal coronavirus treatments. https://t.co/b2ZkziyR4P
