@NYMag I don’t disagree on the broad thesis but mentioning other negative impacts on our brain (microplastics, smoke), and not the buckets and buckets of studies on the brain damage and negative neurological impact of repeat Covid infections - genuinely journalistically irresponsible
@Michael22396887@RachelLeishman Any character who is rude about her is pretty clearly written to be read as either an asshole or just intimidated by her
@Michael22396887@RachelLeishman Personally I think this is a little reductive - loud angry feminists deserve love stories too! He loves her as she is and doesn’t want her to change. It also shows her as a good role model for her sister in terms of confidence and sticking up for herself
@KailasWorlds @Globalstats11@PicturesFoIder You’re kind of saying dishes can’t be American if they’re created by immigrant communities in the US, which is a bit nativist. for example, how many Italian-American dishes are there that Italians wouldn’t claim as their cuisine- if it’s not real Italian, where’s it from? USA
@JamesThrot For everyone despairing in the comments-Fwiw, I know pluslife is prohibitively expensive for a lot of people but https://t.co/I7m8x6Lgwc has a great discount on machines/tests,the tests are sometimes cheaper than lat flow (esp considering how many lat flow tests you have to take)
@RKing618 to add (even unwittingly) to the growing harmful idea that mask-wearers might be criminal. Masks protect all of us and immunocompromised people rely on them to stay safe; mask bans put us in danger and block disabled people from safely participating in society.
@RKing618 I love your shows so much and this episode was great! Respectfully, I understand the face mask as a plot device but it considering states across the US (including New York) have passed/ are trying to pass bans on masking, using “criminality” as an excuse, it may not be the time
@mindofprospect hate to break it to you but this is like.. a museum studies debate from the 90s (at least)… not a cool or hot take, literally just reheated old-timey status quo gatekeeping :)
@miklelalak@DropSiteNews It was her home too. I get it but talking like this makes it easier for ppl to dismiss the whole state, instead of thinking about helping all the marginalized Texans who did nothing wrong and have to live under our evil fasch Republican state party.
@miriamfrankmac @TheToast oh these girls have been vile for a long time I used to follow one of them for memes in like 2015, it does nottt surprise me that they would be shitty abt disabled people 🥴
@LadyDumplings I think it can be effective especially at a state level - for instance, a number of state reps in New York have adjusted their support of mask bans due to the amount of constituent feedback. In Congress, there’s more BS.
@TrueSlazac@funnymagicring the irony of using a slur while talking abt this… like ok I guess out of all those diff groups I know which ppl u don’t care about! 🙃
@iamSlayyoncee@6inchlena Tbf right after that she did say “I’ll do everything I can” or something like that - I hope she does fund lots of legal aid etc and is public in her activism/donations to encourage others, but I think it was more a moment of raw emotion
@KjellRules@yurisluttt People feel it’s bad representation of Mexico from a director who has said in interviews he didn’t feel he needed to do much research on mexico, talk to more Mexicans, and doesn’t speak Spanish
@SheilaGreenfiel@akirathedon@paulg He’s saying the opposite - he’s saying that people’s kindness and goodness or their cruelty manifest in the way we perceive them, so we stop to see mean people as “beautiful” or kind people as “ugly” (both subjective) the more we know their nature
@carla_denyer Thank you so much for this! It’s great to see some leadership in this area. It would be great to also advocate for mask mandates in hospitals and other medical spaces, where too many are dying from infections they pick up there. We shouldn’t have to be afraid to go to the doctor.
@kimarir2@drjenny88@Katywing @stillwemadeit If you think this small action is extreme I don’t think you’ll like the collective action required to protect ourselves from climate catastrophe
