"My hope is that students leave the class a little less nervous and possibly even excited about what is before them. I hope they leave inspired to be active in their education and strive to do more than collect facts, more than memorize." - ✍️ Professor of Biology David R. Bowne
How can we identify *future* #InvasiveSpecies? Come see my poster at #ESA2024 today to see how we can "crowdsource" the priority lists in a region to build a list of potential invaders.

We are going to miss our beloved Flaco so much. It is impossible to describe how much joy he gave us. This picture is from exactly a year ago when he was exploring the North Woods. Rest in Peace dearest Flaco 💔💔💔 #birdcpp@BirdCentralPark
A rare sight caught on camera🦉
A little over a year ago, I was blessed to be one of the first to see Flaco the night of his release on the corner of 5th Ave and 61st St.
I hope your year of freedom was the best one

We will remember Flaco at the peak of his powers, on top of the world—an owl who inspired so many as he went from living in a tiny enclosure to owning the Manhattan skyline in less than a year. 🦉 ❤️
Do I look like I give a rat's ass? Flaco, the Eurasion eagle-owl that fled a New York zoo & survived in the wild until his fatal accident in Manhattan Friday, cherished every moment as a free bird. My favorite shot of him at the tail end of his rodent feast @ Central Park. (2023-08-30) #BBCWildlifePOTD #ThePhotoHour #IndiAves #birdcpp #Flaco
Flaco spent his first 13 years primarily living for the benefit of people. As much as his story of survival and adaptation touched all of us, he was finally able to live for his own benefit in the past year.
(Cont’d)
"Flaco was in good body condition at the time of death, with good muscling and adequate fat stores."
Trauma to the body was noted, but "no evidence of head trauma." It may take "weeks" to finish testing for toxicology and infectious diseases.

As you may have already seen, Flaco the Eurasian eagle-owl has passed away. I am sad beyond words. Flaco defied the odds and made quite a life for himself in the city over the past year. Along the way he came to mean so much to so many, including me. ❤️🦉
