Exciting news! Our latest paper is out in Nat. Microbiol. @NatureMicrobiol
We show that a sub-lineage of 7th pandemic V. cholerae has acquired mobile genetic elements packed with phage defense systems—rendering it multi-phage resistant 😳 ..... 1/3

BREAKING: Vibrio vulnificus — a deadly, flesh-eating bacteria with a staggering 20% mortality rate — is now being detected in multiple U.S. waterways.
And here’s the part you’re not supposed to ignore: this comes after the Trump administration dismantled critical water monitoring systems and gutted CDC programs that were tracking this very threat.
When you defund science and silence public health experts, Americans pay the price.
Switzerland’s relations with Europe have enabled it to become established as a nation of science, says Yves Flückiger, President of @academies_ch. Signing the Bilateral Agreements III is strategically important for the future of our country.👇 https://t.co/SHI9YQYHY1
DNA Uptake in Cholera May Increase Defense Mechanisms
Results also showed that in the pandemic 7PET lineage of V. cholerae, the SCI appears largely static

Excited to share that our latest paper is published @ScienceMagazine
We show that HGT via natural competence drives diversification of chromosomal integrons in V. cholerae.
Thanks to Laurie, Sandrine, Loriane & Alexandre for their help with this study🥳

Dear journals: please please please don't take a lengthy stay of a manuscript on Biorxiv as a sign of something "wrong" with a paper. Given how long review processes and even editorial decisions have gotten these days, it really doesn't mean anything. Thanks!
@AHarms485 Thanks so much Alexander for your visit and your expert feedback on the thesis of our PhD student Celine.
Very much appreciated 🤩!!
And I hope you had a productive train ride back home 🚂🚆
Do you think you can rejuvenate your cognitive capacities? Perhaps by reprogramming specific cells in your brain? Sounds crazy? Well, it is... but it works! By using partial #reprogramming targeted to #engram cells in the mouse brain, we just did that: https://t.co/rlUXbdz0iU
@KamounLab@Blunt_Microbe Why do you think that preprinting represents a form of peer review? We frequently preprint our work and never received any critical feedback because of it.
This is just so good. Grandpa Don clearly failed geography. Oh and he flunked history too.
How did he do in economics? Don’t answer that.
Jon Stewart is so good at this

My advice for young scientist who are looking to "develop a brand" as the ad I just got from Cell press offers is this: Develop a brand as a careful, thoughtful, methodical scientist. A scientist who does elegant experiments w/ lots of controls & doesn't oversell their findings.
