As mayor, I can never accept hate directed at a member of our community. The language directed at Sen. Wiener yesterday was targeted, hateful, and antisemitic. In San Francisco, we welcome disagreement and respectful dialogue around issues many of us feel passionately about—but we cannot allow harassment and threats of violence.
If you’re out celebrating Pride this weekend, I want you to be able to do it safely. Let’s also look out for each other so we can all have a great weekend. We are at our best as a city when we celebrate each other, and I’m looking forward to doing that tomorrow.
Why does California take so long to count ballots?
In short, the state’s leaders have prioritized expanding last minute options to vote by mail over a quick count.
You shouldn't be driving ten over on city streets. That's the whole point of the limits -- pedestrians are drastically likelier to survive impacts at 25mph than 35mph. https://t.co/ZD2Pu57pW4

This is deeply disappointing. We need more housing in nearly every part of our state, particularly in our urban hubs. It’s essential for fighting climate change, increasing affordability, and building community. If we fail to make it easier for people to stay in CA, we lose.
Today I signed a City Council resolution opposing SB79 unless it is amended to exempt cities with a state-approved and compliant Housing Element.
While I support the intent to accelerate housing development statewide, as written, this bill risks unintended consequences for LA.
Yesterday, batteries supplied 27% of the power at peak demand in California.
A true "energy dominance" policy agenda would recognize the massive benefits of solar + storage.
The cost of housing is just too high, forcing people to endure longer commutes and worsening our climate crisis. My Build More Housing Near Transit Act will encourage the construction of low- and middle-income housing in transit-served, walkable locations.
