Alberta Municipalities President @CptGandam minced no words today in condemning Bill 20…
“Bill 20 is an attempt by the government to centralize, strengthen and tighten (Smith’s) hold on power”

For the last 8 mths, we have said that the introduction of political parties in local elections is a bad idea that most Albertans do not want. 1/6

Rachel Notley, Leader of the Alberta NDP Official Opposition, issued the following statement in response to Bill 18: Provincial Priorities Act:
“This new legislation is going to wrap municipalities, post-secondary institutions and health authorities in a giant spool of red tape.
“Danielle Smith's government has neglected the municipalities that deliver critical services and build needed housing and infrastructure. For her to be playing petulant partisan games is not securing Albertans their share of federal dollars.
“Under her watch, Albertans with diabetes have been told they won’t be able to access critical, expensive diabetes medication. Alberta women won’t be able to access contraception. And now, Danielle Smith wants to continue an endless tirade that will result in more red tape for municipalities on the front lines of building critical housing and infrastructure our communities need.
“This Bill will make things more expensive for Albertans who need these critical infrastructure investments, and will leave funds on the table in Ottawa instead of getting Albertans what they deserve.
“Albertans haven’t seen any benefit in their health care, in our school systems, or in their household budget at the end of the day as a result of Smith’s squabbles with the federal government. This Bill will be no different. Danielle Smith’s record of achieving nothing speaks for itself.”
New regulations eliminate all nursing care requirements for residents of continuing care homes in Alberta, warns @UnitedNurses. “So, we’re taking the care out of continuing care,” says UNA president Heather Smith. More outrageous UCP misrule. https://t.co/ZHNiVBRBC6
“The previous legislation required continuing care home operators to provide 1.9 hours of nursing and personal care per day, of which 22 per cent had to be provided by a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
While that was clearly inadequate, at least there was a minimum legal standard”

The very presence of private schools means there is choice. The government doesn't (and shouldn't) fund them. If parents want to CHOOSE a private school, they can pay for it.
Otherwise, public education (which also offers a dizzying array of choices) suffers.
