Yemen: I am alarmed over the encirclement of Taiz by the Houthis, which puts civilians at grave risk and cuts off essential supplies. Humanitarian aid must be allowed in, and civilians who want to leave must be allowed to do so freely and safely.

📍Yemen | Today, our teams supported the release of 159 people detained in connection with the conflict, helping them prepare to return home to their families.
We remain ready, at the request of the parties, to act as a neutral intermediary in facilitating or supporting further releases, transfers and repatriations of people detained in connection with the conflict in Yemen.

At the #GenevaPeaceForum, the EU & @CanadaGeneve brought together experts to discuss neglected conflicts & overlooked opportunities for peacemaking. Closing the discussion, @MCervoneEU reflected that peace requires collaborative efforts, political will & inclusive action.
The Houthi attack on Riyadh’s international airport is an appalling act of terror. There can be no justification for indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The EU stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those killed, and we wish the injured a swift recovery. I remain in close contact with @FaisalbinFarhan.
EU Foreign Ministers will discuss the escalating tensions in the region on Monday. Enhanced coordination between the EU’s Red Sea naval operation Aspides and the Saudi-led Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition is vital.
The ICC is the cornerstone of the international criminal justice system. It prosecutes individuals responsible for the most serious crimes under international law.
I have spoken with ICC President Tomoko Akane following the United States’ announced intention to impose sanctions. The six-month period before the measures take effect offers a window for dialogue.
The EU has always supported the Court, and the EU has options to ensure that it can continue its vital work. Protecting the ICC remains an EU priority.
Warmest congratulations to my dear friend and former UN Human Rights Chief Navi Pillay on the Nobel Peace Prize! She has shown what courage, integrity and an unwavering belief in human rights and the law can achieve.
Thank you, Navi, for inspiring us all.
I echo @UNReliefChief Tom’s call to all parties in northern #Ethiopia to open humanitarian corridors and allow us to reach all people in need of health and humanitarian lifesaving assistance. The best medicine is peace.

No country is above international scrutiny. Today, #HRC63 adopted a resolution led by the EU on the human rights situation in Russia. It renews the mandate of the Special Rapporteur for 1 year to ensure independent & objective reporting by a UN expert to the intl community.
"Every knot in this handwoven rug carries a woman's skill and patience. Thank you @KajaKallas for your visit and for the EU's partnership in empowering women's small businesses across Syria. 🇸🇾🇪🇺"
"Empathy is the glue of humanity" - Bob Geldof at last night's launch of the Human Rights Music Festival, hosted at the EU Residence. Quoting Victor Hugo, EU Amb @MCervoneEU underlined: "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent." 🎶

As Artificial Intelligence continues to develop, cybersecurity challenges are evolving, too. Today, at the 'Securing the AI Era' event in the margins of #UNGA, we discussed how to strengthen digital resilience and stay ahead of emerging cyber threats. It's more than time!
I met with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
We addressed diplomatic prospects for ending the US-Iran war and fully re-opening the Strait of Hormuz. There were no tolls or fees for passage before the war, and there should be none after the war.
Navigation must be free and unimpeded, both in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
I also raised domestic repression inside Iran, including the sharp rise in executions and death sentences.
Dear @MarkJCarney we want to bring the relationship with Canada to the highest level possible.
I would like to work with you on opening the door for Canada to being the first associate member of the EU.
And create a common prosperity and economic security space.
Deeply concerned by the escalating conflict in Yemen, which has displaced an estimated 50,000 people in recent days. Families are fleeing violence, many for the second or third time. Civilians must be protected, humanitarian access ensured, and international support urgently increased to help those affected.
Some people lead institutions. Emma Bonino gave ours a heart.
As Commissioner for @eu_echo, she helped make the EU faster & braver where it mattered most.
She never forgot the people behind the crises.
Today we are who we are because she believed we could be.
Grazie, Emma.
#KSA-#Yemen: Statement by the Spokesperson
The EU strongly condemns the latest Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia.
The targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable.
We call on the Houthis to immediately end all attacks.
