"The Scottish Parliament, adjourned on the 25th Day of March in the year 1707, is hereby reconvened."
#MadameEcosse, Winnie Ewing, 1999.
Now it's time to make it Scotland's *only* Parliament.

In December I was hospitalised (non-covid), but thanks to the Scottish NHS I got home in time to recover and have the best Christmas with my wife, our 3 year old and our baby.
Tories, keep your filthy greedy paws off our NHS.

I do not support including a third option. The normality of independence works as does constructive #EU membership. More #Brexit accepting imposed fudge ( as described by Starmer yesterday) is about saving Westminster not securing the best future for the people of Scotland.
One of my friends and good pals sister, Alice Byrne, has gone missing in Edinburgh, Portobello. She's vulnerable and hasn't been seen or heard from since New Year's Eve – please please share, especially if you have any Edinburgh connections!
This is Margaret McCollum, she visits the Embankment underground station everyday to hear and remember her late husband, Oswald who recorded the "Mind the Gap" announcement in 1950.
Loved one needed acute care (non-Covid) from NHS Scotland and as usual, staff were brilliant. Lucky to have this system (free to use) during a pandemic when COVID placing huge pressure. Can you imagine no access to doctor or nurse? That’s the reality in many parts of the world.
I read the article after your tweet, Derek. It’s completely unhinged,
so much so that I checked her timeline & saw that she retweets the guy Oliver. So that is her level. Meanwhile in Portugal it is now the norm to do a lateral flow test to enter a restaurant, and folk accept it.
My goddaughter, a well known Portuguese TV journalist & author, wrote about how for the Portuguese a LFT before going to a restaurant is the new normal. We’re all trying to work together against a PANDEMIC. The insular, unsophisticated, irrational rant below is stupid & backward.
Ooh. Ooh. I know this one. It’s because the cuts are actually to the Scottish budget, they’re made by the far right Tory Westminster government, and no one is surprised any more that @UKLabour shills are more interested in protecting the Tories than fighting for Scotland. Next?
@GregorMorgan6 We are here already, always free to view and funded by subscription by those who can afford £5/month.
Large donations are also welcome. ;-))

While I’m happy to see colleagues recognised 👏 , I was born & brought up in the U.S. & not interested in any honours or distinctions. For me, it's about public health, the actual value of the work I do & the people that I can support and mentor esp younger scientists.
As we go into the third year of the pandemic, the New Scientist team has been delving deep into what we can expect in 2022. I urge you: do not expect the pandemic to end next year. Let’s all go into the new year with realistic expectations.
Jumping on here to wish you all a wonderful & bright 2022 🌟. 2021 has been simply awful for many- but also about the triumph of science. Of vaccines, antiviral meds & mass testing. Every infection averted in 2020/21 was a chance to live into a post-vaccine, antiviral world.
