@NUFCBlogcouk@MsiDouglas I’m confused by this. He’s not exactly coming back from a lengthy layoff - he missed one match for us, plus the international break. Then returned and played 30 minutes against Coventry, but 13 days later he’ll still be working back to fitness and not ready to start?
@CraigHope_DM I know he needs to settle into a long-term position, but I do also think Miley could succeed as a 10. Tidy finisher, can score with his head, slips some intricate through balls around the edge of the box. Might be worth a shot at some point with Nico and Steur behind him.
@Capitao39@CraigHope_DM If you want to suggest that he could be effective as partner to someone like Osula in an old-fashioned front two, I agree. But I can’t see him effectively leading the line as a lone striker in the PL at all.
@Capitao39@CraigHope_DM I think there is a difference between being our best striker and our best finisher. Barnes is definitely the latter, but he has zero experience to indicate the former. Holding the ball up, winning duels against CBs, serving as the focal point in attack - he’s not suited to that
@JedBob1@NUFCBlogcouk I just don’t know that Jaissle has any inclination to change formations yet. And if we did go to any formation with 2 strikers, at least 1 of Osula/Wissa has to start there, as they’re the only natural strikers we have.
@PFTCommenter To @BarstoolBigCat point on PMT today though, I still don’t understand how next week or after the bye is any better in terms of avoiding another dislocation. It’s either play him as soon as he’s ready and take the risk, or shut him down and have the surgery.
@SkySports_Keith Pretty concerning that we have 9 out injured (Jaouen not listed there) and as far as I know, only 3 (Nico, Dedic, Osula) actually got injured during a match. What is happening in training?
@kennym47@LiamJKennedy23 Gonzalez and Ramsey are out, so that’s not an option. I don’t think Steur has ever played that far forward. Pardo wants to play as a striker, and if not there, his next most natural position is LW. And it leaves out Barnes, Willock, and Toure, who have scored 7 of our 11 goals.
@NUFCBlogcouk Assuming Nico/Ramsey aren’t available and he sticks with 4-2-3-1:
Hornicek; Tino, Thiaw, Schar, Hall; Miley, Steur; Barnes, Willock, Toure; Wissa
Tino and Toure were solid off the bench, MFP doesn’t look ready to start, and Schar could come in for either CB, both have been poor
@NUFC360 No. I assume it will be Miley and Steur, maybe Bamba for one of them if anything. Willock ahead of them as the 10. Schar should be nowhere near a PL midfield, but I’d strongly consider starting him at CB in this one.
@NUFCBlogcouk MFP
Barnes - Wissa - Elanga
Nico - Miley
Hall - Botman - Thiaw - Dedic
Hornicek
Could easily be Osula at ST, Burn LCB, and Tino RB as well, depending on form throughout the season. Need a natural number 10 for next season, Wissa can then be an option at 9 and 10.
@greay10@jordancronin_ That’s not what I’m saying about Bamba and didn’t really apply to Hall’s 1st year either. Bamba might have a bright future here, no way of knowing after only 1 sub appearance. But for this year he’s 5th/6th choice CM and might need a January loan to get any playing time.
