“I’m an immunologist”
- vague
- invites scorn from other biologists
- implies I know what a macrophage actually is
“The human body defends or destroys itself by my will”
- hardcore
- indicates godlike powers over life and death
- I still don’t know what a macrophage is
🔥CONGRESS #ASH21@md_nissen, @BCCancer reported that immune profiling of diagnostic #DLBCL biopsies dramatically improve upon cell-of-origin risk stratification
➡️T-cell senescence, rather than exhaustion, is the more relevant feature in DLBCL disease biology

@LabLesbian Cryostat. Giant, freezing cold machine filled with tiny razor blades. I feel like if I don’t respect it enough, it’ll get up and cut me into 10um sections when I’m not looking.
Excited to be presenting at vICCE tomorrow (12pm Sydney time, free registration)! Join me to learn about how we can forecast coastal flooding and beach erosion over 1000's of km of coastline during large storms #PhD https://t.co/44WTxoWYLh
Our new paper is just out on bioRxiv https://t.co/SBYQRCG8aM This study challenges the long-standing view that B-cells are not important during the elimination phase (cancer immunosurveillance) of cancer immunoediting.
Asthma during pregnancy is a complex disease state that can drastically affect fetal growth and development (sex-specifically of course 😉). Our latest review discusses this in detail. Check it out!
Really great work by the team at @WeillCornell on the fate of lymphoma cells harboring mutations in TBL1XR1! Glad to have been a part of this research, and huge thanks to the authors for inviting us at the @WengLabBCCA to contribute.
Now online! A subset of B cell #lymphomas are driven by #mutations that impair #plasma cell differentiation and bias #cell fate. https://t.co/1XcrbeUBwu
In my 3 Minute Thesis, I explain why we need to understand flooding and erosion hazards on our coastlines and how my work helps us see into the future. https://t.co/JkzJM4yDYo
Pleased to announce that I officially have a new post-doc position at the @Sydney_Uni! I’ll be continuing my work on cancer immunology and immunotherapy with the legendary Prof Fazekas de St Groth.
@LabLesbian There’s usually a lot of poorly disguised racism that plays into it as well, given the intersections between race and class in most societies.
I figured out at what times the sun is going to reflect off the building opposite to us and brighten our living room... This is what happens when you get distracted from your regular science with other science. Full write up here: https://t.co/Ar9cZES1b3 #phdlife#python
When I state my opinion on the immune response to SARS-CoV2 -> you're not an MD, you only treat mice, you are not qualified.
When a male PhD states the same opinion -> wow, you are a hero & you look like my uncle 👏🏽 can you take a selfie?
I'm tired of this. #WomenInSTEM
Our lab’s brainchild is out! In this paper, we show inhibition of endocytosis is able to trap drug targets on cancer cell surfaces, which monoclonal antibodies can bind to, thus allowing immune cells to recognise and kill cancer cells. @SimpsonTeamUQDI #AcademicChatter
