One of my friends was recently promoted to Senior Software Engineer at FAANG. He has around 12 years of experience and is the best developer I've worked with. Meanwhile, plenty of designers consider themselves seniors after 2-3 years of freelancing.

Senior grades are something that only a fraction of people can achieve in their lifetime. Most will stay at junior/middle levels. However, they will most likely call themselves senior/principals simply due to the fact that they work in a much less quality-demanding company and have just worked there for years.

So don't get frustrated if you can't produce something great after just a few years of experience. It's a very long journey, even if social media is trying to convince you that it isn't.
