How to read unverified code in less than 5 min:

1. Check for free source first
Etherscan's Similar Match shows the source of any verified contract with the same bytecode. Forks and clones end here

2. Decompile
- Dedaub: paste the address, get solidity-like code with function names and storage layout, free
- heimdall if you want it local, one command
- Etherscan has a decompile bytecode button on unverified contracts too

3. Name the functions
Decompilers guess names from selectors. For the missing ones paste the 4 byte selector into openchain. whatsabi gives you the full ABI and follows proxies in one call

4. Proxy?
Read the implementation slot and decompile that instead

5. Skip reading, watch it run
Open any TX to the contract in Tenderly or Phalcon. The trace shows every internal call with values, 10 TXs tell you more than the decompiled code
