@xriskology It’s almost like they don’t see a world full of social communities filled w people who each have their own agency, but instead see units for a math problem that behave in easily predictable ways. How many times do you have to be wrong before you question your assumptions!
@robinhanson Why are so many seemingly smart people saying things like what Yudkowsky says here. LLM’s don’t understand anything. They do something like mimicry but it’s even a far cry from that. There’s no reasoning —it’s just search, match, output.
@ArthurCDent@lastpositivist I did that for awhile, but I get too excited about things I don’t really need to worry about so I had to stop. Same for Chris tbh, they both post soooo much!
@Mankatonews As someone who works in old town, making the space better for pedestrians is very obviously the right move —both for the local businesses and the pedestrians. Drivers who use Riverfront as a thoroughfare only will either adapt or find another route.
@sama Oh man, why do you suppose that is. Couldn’t be because young people grew up with social media and perception, optics, and personal brand are its currency! 🤦♂️ The problem is capitalism, not university faculty.
@sama They definitely have not done that. I graduated two years ago and work with people still in school. Ensuring people feel safe is not the top priority for the school. This is a stupid tweet.
@Kamal97ncountin@pwlot The brain definitely relies on quantum mechanics — everything relies on quantum mechanics, that’s how our reality works. The issue is when we simulate do all the effects that would happen irl come along for the ride. For myself, I think they quite obviously don’t.
@sanjanacurtis I also like how this highlights the hysteria of the nuclear arms race. Like no one pointed out the USSR hadn’t been launching rockets with payloads headed out to the moon! Let alone the technical capability to land there with automated gear that then exploded. I mean c’mon 🤦♂️
@MegaDarren @sanjanacurtis@sciam Bungee cords 🤷♂️ Fun article! It reminds me of the city that started paying pigeons (I think) in food for picking up cigarette butts 😂
