I’m choosing this poem to honor and mourn more than 20,000 kids, including over 30 relatives of mine, who have been slaughtered by Israel over the past +1,000 days.
The exhibit titled, “Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present” at the Canadian human rights museum in Winnipeg opens tonight. The online exhibit is now live for viewing: https://t.co/yHcFfIZYZx
⚡️BREAKING: Downtown Vancouver - the neighbourhood with the city’s second-highest rate of overdose deaths - will soon have an overdose prevention site once again.
It opens just in time for the world to arrive for the FIFA World Cup ⚽️ … THIS IS GOOD NEWS
👉 Since late fall, BC’s illicit drug supply has grown more unpredictable because of medetomidine, a new veterinary sedative that organized crime is mixing into their drugs.
👉 And since the OPS on Howe Street was shut down on Jan. 31 because of neighbour discomfort, downtown residents with substance use issues have had limited options for life-saving care.
‼️ There has been MORE public drug use downtown and MORE overdose events in public view ‼️ (It’s NOT how we want to show off our city to people attending games at B.C. Place)
The new OPS will open in early June, providing safe and PRIVATE supervised consumption, plus access to treatment, mental health care, and other supports. This is a win-win for vulnerable downtown residents and for the City.
EVEN THE MOST CALLOUS CRITICS OF HARM REDUCTION SHOULD AGREE IT’S A BETTER SOLUTION THAN THE STATUS QUO!

“Last March, a fog took hold in my head and never left. It settled there somewhere between the moment a DHS agent asked me, ‘Are you Mahmoud Khalil?’ and the moment I realized that I would miss the birth of my first child,” writes Khalil.
A year ago, the Trump administration unlawfully arrested Khalil at his home and detained him for 104 days. “I walk free now, only after an army of lawyers sued the administration for targeting me because of my pro-Palestine speech. But the government is relentless in targeting me,” he writes. “So when I walk, I watch my back.”
“When strangers approach me and ask, ‘Are you Mahmoud Khalil?’ — the same words in the same expectant tone the DHS agent used before the handcuffs — I do not know if they want to shake my hand or spit in my face. I do not know whether they will say, ‘Thank you for what you're doing,’ or follow me through midtown aggressively shouting, ‘Am Yisrael Chai.’ Both have happened. At first glance, I can never tell them apart.”
In a new essay, Khalil writes about grappling with these two truths: “That I walk through the city afraid and that the city, in small and persistent ways, tells me I am welcome. That I am watched and that I am seen.” Read it in full: https://t.co/wQyxkGZoyk
April 21, 2026, will remain etched in history forever. Alhamdullah, we have officially opened the first library to be built during the genocide in Gaza.
I survived, even after all my expectations had utterly failed. I never imagined that I would stand here among you today; I never imagined that I would soar once again. Like a phoenix, I have risen, carrying in my right hand a legacy that refused to die, and in my left, the very ashes with which epics of steadfastness were written. When the ink ran dry, I wrote with what remained; the ink dried, and blood flowed, so that our first lines were written by a martyr—a witness to our undying struggle.
In Gaza, building a library during a genocide is an act that rises to the level of liberation—perhaps, it is liberation itself. Every book I carried on my shoulders while displaced, and every book I rescued from the rubble, was a stolen homeland. A homeland whose pages they tore, yet the hope of reclaiming it remains alive within us for as long as we live.
Because our Palestinian curriculum and educational system are monitored by the Israeli occupation, we must read. We must read so that we do not become machines fashioned by their hands. We must break free from this 'factory' and become like the olive trees—plants that found their path through the soil of Palestine, emerging in the most beautiful form of struggle and resilience.
In an age obsessed with valuing knowledge based on its material return, I was forced to fight many battles to convince those who argued with me amidst the shelling: 'What good will these books do you? Why do you take them with you every time you are displaced?'
Perhaps they were right; at that time, a loaf of bread was more precious and costly than anything else. But I held a deep, unshakable faith that I would be here one day.
Someone once told me: 'There is a hand that, were it not for its vigilance, we would perish.' He passed away, but my left hand remained, writing and writing and writing, until today I have three books—and a wound that never heals.
In closing, I wish to thank every human being who had a hand in the Phoenix’s rebirth.
-Omar Hamad.
Huge BDS win.
Giller Prize is no longer partnered with Indigo Books, Azrieli Foundation & Scotiabank - all invested in genocide.
In 2023, comrades were arrested protesting Giller. Then, thousands of writers & book workers refused participation.

NEWS: Canadian billionaire Jim Pattison was planning to sell a warehouse for use as an ICE detention and processing facility
After pressure from the public, and from B.C. Green Party leader @EmilyLowan, Pattison's company has cancelled the sale

Canada cannot fund, arm, or legitimize ICE.
I’ve written to PM Carney calling for sanctions, export bans, cancelled subsidies, and the closure of ICE offices in Canada. Fascist violence and human rights abuses demand action, not silence.
In solidarity with all those standing up for our communities against the brutality of immigrant detention and ICE occupation, we're offering free ebooks of three crucial books about migrant justice and border abolition. https://t.co/o2kAknaSMq
In case you’re distracted by the shiny buildings in Kushner’s vision for Gaza, their plan is keep Palestinians in hyper-surveilled prison camps where they’ll eventually provide cheap labor for the resorts/high rises they won’t be allowed to live in, all built atop a mass grave.
@CJPME A new mini-documentary by @CJPME breaks down how Canadian military goods bypass export permits by going through the US and flow to Israel untracked and permit-free.

Beloved disability rights activist Alice Wong co-founded Crips for eSims for Gaza, which raised millions of dollars to support internet and phone connectivity for Palestinians in Gaza during the genocide.
In doing so, she helped save countless lives.
RIP 💔
Activists on board on the Gaza-bound Sumud flotilla carrying aid reported explosions and multiple drone attacks against their boats while sailing in international waters off Greece on the way to carry out a peaceful mission, in solidarity with Palestinians facing genocide, by breaking Israel’s cruel and unlawful blockade.
These attacks, along with the Israeli authorities threatening and dehumanizing statements against the flotilla endanger the lives of the crews of the flotilla and are a shameless attempt to intimidate them and their supporters.
Given states’ inaction in the face of Israel’s genocide in Gaza and lack of implementation of the ICJ’s orders that Israel allow humanitarian access to Gaza, activists have decided to take peaceful measures to break Israel’s 18-year illegal blockade.
States have a responsibility to ensure the safe passage of the flotilla, especially as they have repeatedly failed to get Israel to comply with its most basic obligations to ensure Palestinians in Gaza have adequate access to food, water, medicine and other supplies indispensable to their survival. They must step up pressure on Israel to ensure safe passage for the flotilla and to lift the blockade once for all.
There can be no justification for obstructing life-saving aid from reaching Gaza.
It is not just horrific, it is the crime of genocide, as affirmed most recently by the UN commission of inquiry. Canada has an obligation to do everything it can to stop Israel from further atrocities. We need sanctions, arms embargo, and to cut off trade ties with Israel!
BDS Victory!
The Scottish Parliament becomes the first in the world to endorse BDS against genocidal Israel.
BDS calls for escalated civil society pressure on all states to impose legal and targeted sanctions against apartheid Israel similar to those that helped abolish apartheid in South Africa.
Breaking!
City of Burnaby just became first city in Canada to join arms embargo movement against Israel AND the first Apartheid-Free City, breaking ties with Israeli apartheid and settler colonialism.
We've been organizing for months towards this precedent in colonial Canada.
