This is heartbreaking. I was glad to learn about the screening processes in place for athletes, but we still need to do better--at every level of the sport. The earlier someone receives treatment, the more likely they are to make a full recovery. Hope and healing to Molly ❤️
"I think a much better narrative leading to longevity as an athlete sounds like this: 'If you want to play in college, it is important to have balance in your life. That means focusing on your schoolwork and mental health, nourishing your body [...]"

In a profession where so many men's literal job is to research the subject and sport they write about, it's not clear exactly how they remain dumbfounded and continue to miss the god damn point.
Hey, @nytimes and @MattFutterman do better.
Did you miss the memo that women’s sports are about more than just their bodies?
Did you miss the part where Jessie is an outspoken survivor of an ED and spokesperson for the @EmilyProgram ?
When a patient tells me their doctor told them to “just lose weight” it tells me more about the doctor than it does the patient.
It tells me they have a doctor who fails to understand physiology, psychology, and basic human interaction.
Prescribing weight loss is lazy medicine.
When will "wellness" influencers understand that dedicating your life to diet and exercise in order to control your body shape and size is NOT THE SAME THING AS HEALING YOUR BODY IMAGE and it certainly isn't eating disorder recovery...???
When a teen shows early signs of an eating disorder let’s stop the tiptoeing around & seeing if they can work their way out.
I recommend addressing it aggressively with parental supervised nutrition. The consequences of waiting until behaviors are entrenched are deadly.
"don't compete for a top program if you don't want to sacrifice your physical, mental and emotional health for the second deadliest mental health disorder"

No, it is not appropriate to use DEXA to routinely or universally monitor athletes' body composition, no matter what a coach says in pursuit of tech-informed peak performance. In fact, we have evidence that its a dangerous, naive, and ill-advised practice. https://t.co/JXnjfxFd2Q
"How do we make running more mainstream?"
USATF, Nike, UofO: let's build a $270 million new stadium
Tyler Cameron: what if I just put literally any running shoes on my feet?
“When we get the numbers from our DEXA scans, we have an Excel spreadsheet that we can plug the numbers into, hit a button and it gives us a starting value for a training program.”
The LAZIEST, least invested and least appropriate approach to coaching.
I was approached last summer by several former University of Oregon women track athletes alleging they felt victimized by the program's data-driven approach to weight and body fat percentage. After a deep dive, this is what I found: https://t.co/dn1cKySJ3G

Please join me in wishing William Wolfgang, a WWII @USArmy vet, a happy 100th bday! I was honored to give him a Certificate of Congressional Recognition and a 🇺🇸 flown over the US Capitol in his name.
Thank you for your service, sir. We wish you continued health and happiness!
The depth of my love for this brother, can only be matched by the depth of my pain learning of his loss. A immensely talented man with the ability to give voice to the human condition portraying the lives of those whose humanity is seldom elevated until he sings their truth.
