Steris $STE will buy Xodus Medical for $2.1 billion, adding surgical-safety products to its healthcare consumables business. Xodus is best known for its Pink Pad system, which secures and stabilizes patients on the operating table to reduce the risk of slipping or pressure-related injury during surgery.
Xodus is expected to generate about $245 million in revenue in 2026 and the deal is expected to close by December 31, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Viatris $VTRS will buy Pacira BioSciences $PCRX for $1.65 billion in cash, adding two non-opioid pain treatments as it builds out higher-value branded medicines beyond its core generics business.
The deal brings Exparel, used for acute pain after surgery, and Zilretta, a treatment for osteoarthritis knee pain, which generated net sales of $575.1 million and $116.6 million respectively in 2025. Viatris expects the deal to close by the end of 2026.

Alnylam $ALNY is facing securities fraud scrutiny tied to a sharp cut in sales expectations for its ATTR-CM franchise, raising fresh questions about how reliably that portfolio can support future profits.
The stock still trades at a premium price to earnings ratio to many biotech peers, so the legal overhang lands on an already demanding valuation built on its RNAi platform and ATTR portfolio.

Florida’s Attorney General sued Pfizer $PFE and CEO Albert Bourla personally, alleging the company concealed COVID-19 vaccine safety risks, including myocarditis and risks for pregnant women. Pfizer says the claims have no merit.
The suit adds to a crowded legal docket, including more than 6,400 pending federal Depo-Provera brain tumour lawsuits.
For Pfizer, the lesson is that legacy product litigation keeps drawing management attention and capital away from rebuilding growth. Naming the CEO personally also raises the stakes for the board’s oversight of how safety risks are disclosed.
Merck $MRK faced another setback in its European rollout of subcutaneous Keytruda after a Dutch patent court ruled that the treatment infringed a Halozyme $HALO drug delivery patent, blocking its marketing in eight European countries. Merck disputes the ruling and maintains that Halozyme’s patent claims are invalid.
The decision follows a similar injunction in Germany, adding pressure to Merck’s efforts to expand Keytruda through a more convenient formulation as the company seeks to extend the commercial life of its blockbuster cancer franchise.
The case illustrates the growing tension between protecting pharmaceutical innovation and ensuring patients benefit from advances in drug delivery. While Halozyme has a legitimate interest in defending its intellectual property, the restrictions could delay access to a formulation designed to make cancer treatment more convenient. For Merck, the dispute also puts its patent due diligence and licensing strategy under scrutiny as it seeks to extend Keytruda’s commercial position.
BioMarin $BMRN shares continue to experience volatility as investors react to its latest scientific update, which centers on early-stage and investigational data rather than near-term commercial catalysts.
The company's emphasis on long-acting BMN 333 and hypochondroplasia points to a development-heavy story that may not quickly lift earnings.

$TSLA earnings tonight: how much of the long-vol thesis depends on catching the occasional outsized move?
We pulled the last eight quarterly earnings from our EarningsWatcher backtester.
Buying the nearest-expiry ATM straddle just before results and exiting near the following session’s close produced only three winners.
But two were substantial:
October 2024: +178%
July 2026: +140%
The five losses ranged from roughly −29% to −58%.
That’s the tension in this setup.
A low hit rate can coexist with very large payouts, while a strong average can conceal repeated premium losses.
With roughly ±6.4% currently priced, we’re looking at the distribution of outcomes and the premium paid—not treating the historical average move as a target.
Eight events, October 2024–July 2026. Historical trade/quote marks, before fees and slippage.
